TREK vs TWILITE ZONE

Which one of these two shows is, do you think, more respected by 'Americana'? This is a STAR TREK site, so I would expect a Star Trek win here. But I was watching some of my Twilite Zone episodes this past weekend, and I really liked this show alot and I still do.

If I were stranded on an uncharted island, and could only chose between ZONE or TREK I would go with TREK, and no doubt most of you TREKNATION folks would too. But what about American/the world in general?

Rob

IMHO, these two shows are more alike than most would admit. Most of TOS major characters had appearances on Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. Both were morality plays on television.
Obviously, I like all 3 series. But Star Trek holds up better in multiple tellings. After awhile I get tired of TZ or OL because the surprise endings aren't surprises by now.

I'm European, but yes, I think "The Twilight Zone" is more respected.

Actually it's a shame that it is so unknown in Europe. It may be the most intelligent and constantly good series ever.

It is? That's news to me. Most people I know who are interested in sci-fi have at least heard of the Twilight Zone. It's a very respected show. Granted, it's not as well known in the mainstream as Star Trek; but how much really is?

Yeah, I think that might be true for the UK. But not here in Germany. Practically no-one knows of it here. I don't know about the other European countries though. Also, you are talking about sci-fi aficionados who, I would think, have a hightened interest in the roots of televised sci-fi. I thought the question was about the general public.

Well, by interested in sci-fi I generally meant people who would actually sit down and watch a sci-fi movie that isn't just lots of explosions; not necessarily people who are very sci-fi literate or devoted fans or anything of the sort. But it's true that once you get beyond this probably not large demographic (my perceptions doubtless being skewered based on who I spend my time with); this show has a low profile.
