Trek set builders advice needed

I got this one in progress and seeing some of the sets you guys make is crazy great.
I'm working on my own miniature set, is their any pointers you can give a new guy. Here is what I have so far.

It's amazing how much those chairs and the ladder throw off my perception of these photos. At first glace, I thought you had somehow built 6-foot tall action figures on a full-size set!

Looks good!
 
hopefully in a month I got sanding painting and doing up the consoles as well as all the buttons and at least build 4 more panels
 
Before embarking on Project: Potemkin, I considered doing this sort of thing myself, but was thrown back by the difficulties in animating stop-motion style.

Here's my attempt on the bridge. It's incomplete because I chose to go live-action instead...
