“Captain’s Log star-date 4523.25; The ship, no… strike that, my….ship, the USS Explorer, is still…..un….responsive to my commands. We are chasing after….a …..Klingon ship. And the….only….reason we are do so, is….so that….the Explorer can copulate with…..the Klingon ship.”

--
Captain Dirk Benton, with his shirt still half torn, sat in his command chair. Lt. Commander Leon Denver, the African-American engineer with multiple engineering degrees accomplished, stood before the Captain, his massive afro casting a shadow on the captain’s face.

“Captain!,” Leon said, “What are we gonna do? The ship isn’t responding to our commands, and,” Leon said as he buried his head into his hands, “If we don’t find a way to stop it, the ship is going to try to have sexual intercourse with the Klingon ship.”

Leon looked up at his Captain, with fear in his eyes. Leon was hoping beyond hope that the Captain Benton would have an answer.

“Engineer…Denver,” Benton said, “Do not….be…afraid! Reach….down….deep and pull the measure of a man…..you….to the surface. Go down….to engineering and find the C32-circuit, and…..crosswire it….with the J25-ciruit.”

“Why?” Engineer Denver asked. “What will that do?”

“Although,” Benton said, “I ….am not an engineer such…as….yourself I use to….build…model ships like…this one…and I think that gave me….Captain Benton…a true understanding of how…she….the USS Explorer…thinks. The J25-circuit, if…….cross wired with the C32-circuit, will….cause…an override in the warp engines.”

“Yes,” Leon said, “you’re right. It will. Thanks for the tip, Captain Benton, I’ll go do that right now.”

:Leon stood up and headed for engineering.

Moments later, after cornering the fleeing Klingon ship against a very large, planet sized asteroid, the Uss Explore approached the rear end of the Klingon ship.

The face of Klingon commander G’nort was on the screen.

“You Federation scum,” G’nort said. “If your ship attempts to have intercourse with mine, I will be forced to shoot a load of blasters and then…”

“I only…want….peace,” Captain Benton said. “If you shoot….a ….load, it would only cause us to shoot our….load….and an intergalactic incident would be the…result. We…must…find away…to solve this.”

Soyak, the Vulcan science officer, who was stroking the IDEC medallion he wore around his neck, spoke.“I think two ships shooting their loads of torpedoes at each other is the most logical out come of this situation, Captain. Just alter their weapon settings to the lowest possible available, so as to cut down on the damage, and let nature take its course.”

Suddenly the ship’s computer began to speak, via its audio interface.

Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind.

“Captain,” Mylf, the female android Helmsman said, “The computer just quoted A Midsummer’s Night Dream.”

“Captain Benton! Do you think we should just let it happen?” G’nort asked.

“It may…be…the only way to get…control…of our ships.” Benton replied.

G’nort thought for a moment.

“Then, in the interest of interstellar peace, I agree.” G’nort said.

“Make is so,” Benton said to Mylf.

LT. Mylf piloted the USS Explorer to a position directly behind the Klingon vessel. And then, suddenly, a load of torpedoes zipped out of the Explorer, landing at different areas of the Klingon ship’s stern. And, just as Soyak had predicted, the blasts harmlessly bounced off, and streaked away.

“It worked!!!” Klingon commander G’nort yelled.

The two crews cheered loudly.

--
Later, Captain Benton stood over at Soyak’s post. A lone tear came from Soyak’s eye.

“Why are you crying?” Benton asked.

“The ship,” Soyak said, “found true love. It only lasted for one true moment of ecstasy, but it was love. I so envy our ship.” Soyak said.

Benton nodded, “Someday,” Benton said, “you will find true love too, Soyak. Love is a many,” and then Benton looked at the TV camera, smiled, and then he delivered the final line “splended thing.”

“And cut!” Lionel Richie, the famous singer who was the director of the first regular episode of Star Trek: The Mission, said, and then the cameras stopped rolling.

--
Four weeks later, the pilot of STAR TREK: The Mission aired on a Wednesday Night, at 8pm. It garnered high ratings, even beating out American Idol on the Fox network. The first regular episode, which you just read, aired one week later and kept 80 percent of the pilot’s ratings. A new sci-fi hit had finally come, and ABC-TV was more than happy.

Star Trek fans all over the internet loved it, especially the fans of TREKBBS. One of their own, Ian Morrison, had written both episodes. His fellow FANFIC writers heaped praised upon the new STAR TREK, going so far as to say it was the best ever! There were several threads devoted to it;
