Trek on Bluray

Paramount really chose the wrong side of the HD battle, is the delay in Trek bluray due to that spurn or do you think they'll release them closer to Trek XI.
I'd really like to see the HD version of some of these films

They're being worked on as we speak. As a recent Blu-Ray convert, I am waiting with baited breath. We know they're working on some new bonus features and that many of the films (at least the ones that need attention) are getting new HD transfers and a good "digital scrubbing" to quote the Digital Bits article that first reported the news.

They'll probably be announced to coincide with the release of Trek XI. Whether it's the theatrical release (my guess) or the DVD/Blu-Ray release, I don't know.

Actually Paramount backed BOTH Blu-ray & HDVD until switching to HDDVD only for a few months. A grand total of about 6 titles are still not available on Blu-ray that were available in HDDVD.

The Hidef Trek movie releases were not delayed due to this. They were either going to be released to coincide with the new movies theatrical premiere or DVD release whenever that came anyway. The movie's release date delay would have set back the Hidef release in any event. We'll get them in 2009 and since they are going to be a large chunk of change--folks better be using that time to save their money anyway.

Imagine if you want all ten (or eleven) on Blu-ray---that's nearly $300. individually or $200+ in a set.

Does that include the Remastered TOS episodes (which were partially HD-DVD sponsored)?

I look forward to buying the one Trek movie worthy of an HD release (Star Trek: The Motion Picture)... and I'll be buying it on the secondary market. $25 to $35 for a typical high-definition movie is too much money.

TOS season 1 is not available on Blu-ray.
All 3 TOS seasons will also likely be available next year as part of the big push for the new movie.

The ONE Trek movie worthy of HD release??
How narrow-minded and sad.

Got to tell you... there are probably only five of the first ten that I want in HD.

The Motion Picture
The Wrath of Khan
The Search for Spock
The Undiscovered Country
Generations

The two disc Collectors Editions are more than enough for the other five. Unless of course there is some kick ass supplemental material.

^^I agree that some of the movies are marginal for repurchase---so YES I would expect some kick-ass extras if they want to sell a box set of all ten indivually.

That would include:
ALL previous extras
commentary for Insurection
Deleted/alternate/extended scenes for TWOK, TSFS, TVH, TUC & FC---along with MORE from the movies that previously had some.
ALL teasers, trailers and TV spots for all movies
New retrospectives with surviving cast.
Tributes to deceased cast (There are many)
ALL versions of TWOK TUC via seamless branching
Multiple versions of TMP on separate discs.
still galleries
etc.............

If they have all that I'll buy the box set the first day...

I don't know about the movies but i will be coughing up to get TOS on Blue ray....I am actually in the process of not watching any TOS on any media deliberately, and have been for just over a year now so i can enjoy them more when they appear on BR.

Ok i crumbled a few weeks ago and watched Space seed on DVD, but thats all...
