Just a few things to be aware of when posting in this forum.

Posting synopses and story ideas should be avoided because of the presence of Pocket Book editors and authors. Speculation about future Trek Book plots or direction is fine, but posting a detailed plot outline of a story idea you once had for a fan fic is not a good idea as the editors and authors have to avoid such posts.

Re: Trek Lit Reminders

Any Trek author or editor who wants their rank customized to reflect their position should contact the moderators of the forum or the board boss Lisa and she'll sort you out.

Re: Trek Lit Reminders

Oh what a joyous day it will be when the sticky thread not sticking glitch is finally sorted out.

*bump*

Re: Trek Lit Reminders

A little clarification on non-Trek books being discussed in the forum: if they're by an established Trek author this is the appropriate place to discuss them (e.g. Dayton Ward's "Last World War" or Margaret Wander Bonanno's "Preternatural" series), otherwise they're off-topic and will be moved to the appropriate forum.

Re: Trek Lit Reminders

After several questions raised by various posters, both SlaveOfSeven and myself feel we need to clarify the last reminder.

Yes, all current authors & editors here, regardless of how many works they have published,- from one short story to however many hundred books KRAD now has published ;) can talk about any other of their non-trek works as an on-topic subject (so anything from their latest blockbuster to a newspaper article) ;) We are nice, tight community here, and we always want to celebrate in the works of our friends.

In terms of non-posting authors & editors, we feel it should be only fair if we limit on-topic non-trek literature conversations to the prolific trek authors (ie, the Diane Carey's, Christie Golden's or Peter David's of this world et cetera), not because we have anything against the guy who wrote one TNG book 12 years ago, but because there needs to be a limit and we don't have a free for all about non-trek works of Keith Sharee or V.E. Mitchell etc.

Plus any non-trek works by one-off authors, whould likely find a bigger market in the SF&F or Misc forums (depending on the genre of the book).

General threads are still okay (ie "Trek Authors: Where are they now?").

In all fairness, we never expected alot of threads about V.E. Mitchell's book "Pool Party Panic" based on the series "The Secret World of Alex Mack" et al to begin with, but we have been asked to clarify this point by several posters, so I hope this is a proper clarification.

We are not going to list a yes or no of non-posting trek authors, that is silly, and we think you should trust in yourselves, your gut feeling should tell you what forum they topic should be posted in. :)

If anybody has questions, feel free to PM either SlaveofSeven or myself. Or open a thread in MA if you think it warrents a public discussion.

Re: Trek Lit Reminders

I thought this is as good as time as any to remind everybody about spoilers in thread titles.

Especially for the upcoming "Unity" novel which I know a heck of alot of readers in this forum are looking forward to.

But for the question at hand. Don't do it. And spoilers in titles for the purposes of trolling will result in a warning, no ifs, butts or maybes. :p

I have to admit everybody has been super in keeping spoilers out of titles so far, and I applaud you for that (that is why I love co-modding this wonderful forum - it is the great people like you guys!), but I thought a general reminder might be in order.

Also, if a thread contains the word "Unity", obviously it will have spoilers in it (unless otherwise stated as a non-spoiler thread) - it is common logic.

I remember, in SF&F, a troll put spoilers in the title for the last "Harry Potter" book and it completely ruined the suspense of the book for me, thus please don't ruin it for others. Please respect their feelings. :)

Now if anybody has any questions, feel free to talk to me about it.

Heck, feel free to even talk to me personally (over PM or IM) about the contents of "Unity" to me. I have to admit I have only ever been a casual fan of DS9 & the re-launch (even though I do think the books are extremely well written), thus I don't care about spoilers in this case.

Re: Trek Lit Reminders

Now that TrekBBS has working spoiler tags, I just want to make sure that people are using them - especially in a forum where people may be a couple of books behind the most recent releases.

For threads where (spoilers!) aren't in the title, please make sure to use the spoiler tags whenever a major "event" is mentioned - just like you would use spoiler space normally.

Here's how you do it: [code.]Spoiler Text[/code.] = <span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span>Spoiler Text</span><hr /></span>

BAD: "Man, I couldn't believe that Picard <span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span>died</span><hr /></span> at the end of A Time to Kill."

BAD: "Man, I couldn't believe that <span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span>Picard</span><hr /></span> died at the end of A Time to Kill."

GOOD: "Man, I couldn't believe that <span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span>Picard died</span><hr /></span> at the end of A Time to Kill."

Just play it safe when you're using the spoiler tags. If you think that a non-spoiled reader might be able to figure out what you said without highlighting the tags, then put more of your sentence inside the spoiler tags.

Re: Trek Lit Reminders

OMG! Picard <span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span>died</span><hr /></span> at the end of "A Time to Kill"

(sorry really couldn't resist)
