Trek Interiors Re-Imagined

Re: Trek Interiors Re-Imagined?

I'm having a hard time getting some of the textures to come through. Texturing is not my strong suit.

Re: Trek Interiors Re-Imagined?

I finally figured out my texturing issues a few days ago. I set my system units to 1mm, whereas most people set it to 1 inch--in the US, anyway. For some reason Max was thinking my real-world scale textures were supposed to be 1mm, when they should actually be 12", so even if my system units were set to 1inch, the textures would still be off by a factor of 12.

Long story short--all set now.

I've been experimenting with Substance Maps in Max and in Substance Designer --thanks for leading me that way, Donny. Turns out that I'll get much more mileage out of it once I start using Substance Painter, but there are some pretty cool pre-made materials out there with Substance maps. It will be even more fun designing some on my own.

I've also added some flexing--mapped, not modeled--into the temporary view screens for a touch of realism.

After all this time, I've put two and two together and realized that 15mm-scale is Tabletop-Scale is 1:120-Scale, which is 1in.=10ft., which is the scale that the refit Enterprise was constructed in.

I may turn these into printable models for printing at Shapeways in various scales. It would be nice if I had a printer.

So many common scales. If they were done at 1:72-scale I could have a ceiling on them. Something to think about.

I need to look up Stage 9 again to see the size of the pit. I'd always wondered how they did Engineering. At first I thought that they'd built the surrounding sets a level above ground. The pit makes much more sense.

Re: Trek Interiors Re-Imagined?

I had a clear idea of what I wanted to see for the curved corridor, but the radiating corridors are eluding me. Part of me wants to copy the existing walls, but another part of me says, "That's so boring."

Unlike the TMP corridors, I'm using frames at regular intervals, so the corridor heading toward the center would need to be quite a bit narrower. The outward radiating corridor could be the same as the curved.

Door surrounds would also be different. TMP., etc used corridor frames to surround doors and radiating corridors. This is different--by choice.

The more I think about it, the more I think I need to change the screens.

I've been playing with textures in the meantime. I won't bore you with the plethora of renders.

Re: Trek Interiors Re-Imagined?

I think I have an idea of how I'll approach the radiating corridors. I'll work on those over the coming days.

Re: Trek Interiors Re-Imagined?

Those backward facing corridor sections remind me if the early Blake's 7 sets :)

I look forward to seeing your resolution with the radish corridor issue

Re: Trek Interiors Re-Imagined?

Glad you're liking Substance. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread! Nice start so far.

Re: Trek Interiors Re-Imagined?

Thank you.

I won't be nearly as fast as you.

I've completely fallen flat on this project and have not been modeling much in the last couple of years.

I'm attempting to get going again, but I'm not sure how much time I'll be able to devote to this particular project.

I'll keep posting stuff as I get it done.
