Trek in 1996 - The Year of the 30th Anniversary

Man, Star Trek was great back then! And they had it on for days on end on Sky One. Repeats of TNG, DS9 starting to really take off as a spectacular series, Voyager starting up. Not to mention First Contact! Star Trek at the time of its 30th anniversary really rocked. Compare that to its 40th, which was a barely audible murmur in a sea of indifference.

1996....easily the height of its (modern) popularity. A golden age, really. Will we see another one? Who knows?

Yes, 1996 was star trek's zenith. I'm hopeful that we can get it back. If the new movie takes off, new interest in trek from a whole new generation of young people might happen.

Yeah, '96 was the year alright... The possibilities seemed endless back then! I was buying the video's back then and I remember hurrying home with tapes containing (among other episodes) Call to Arms and Scorpion, part 1. I never got my ass kicked so ruthlessly by Star Trek cliffhangers.

-edit: looked it up to be certain, and this was 1997... but still, some good memories-

The 30th anniversary was an awesome time. I remember in Portland, Oregon channel 12 was running all four series at that time. Something like 30% of their programming was Star Trek.
