Trek guest actors in maybe surprising roles

All four of the Monkees fell in love with Julie Newmar as April Conquest in The Monkees Get Out More Dirt:

Here's Spectre of the Gun and STV's Rex Holman in The Monkees in Texas:

Teri Garr didn't guest star on the Monkees' TV series, but she did have a small part in their movie Head:

And lastly, Trelane's jacket made a guest appearance in The Prince and the Pauper episode:

Dang, I forgot to get a screen grab - I was watching a Steve Canyon episode on DVD. They stuck promos of other period ABC shows in during the commercial spots. There was a promo for The Bob Cummings Show (AKA, apparently, Love That Bob). John Hoyt appeared in the promo as an Air Force general.

Having discussed the Herb Solow/Desilu Trek and Mission Impossible productions-

Has anyone upthread mentioned the Mission Impossible episode which featured Nimoy and Mark Lenard?

I'll see if I can dig up a capture.

Oh, and there was a discussion a while back that was slightly off topic but interesting- Script/Story re-use:

I submit-

Trek's "Changeling" to Planet Earth's "Robot's Return" to Phase II pilot to The Motion Picture plot.

Oh, and speaking of Roddenberry's ersatz 2nd Genesis II pilot "Planet Earth", ladies and gentlemen, I present Ted Cassidy.

The title of this thread has long since ceased being accurate, as most of these aren't "surprising roles" but I'm tickled it's still going strong.

I just found this thread- kudos on starting it, but also curse you, as I have spent faaaar to long on it. I'd thought the whole- "guess the Trek star/character actor on another show" was some odd thing I did to annoy the people I was watching syndicated UHF TV with when I was a kid.

^Mark Lenard was also in an earlier Mission: Impossible episode called "Trek," with music by "Amok Time" scorer Gerald Fried.

Interesting.

Christopher-

An aside- Having read this very loooong thread I've observed that you seem know a ton about writing and screen/tv writing/tv history specifically. Have you (or peers) ever considered- or been approached to - write an Ep of Star Trek Continues or New Voyages?

It seems each production is getting so close in regard to production values, lighting and so forth- (Even the acting is improving)- what I still find lacking is story.

Pardon the noob question if you've addressed this elsewhere.

JonnyQuest, Richard Kiel never appeared on TOS. You may be making the same mistake a guy I knew in high school made, thinking Richard Kiel, who was Jaws in two Bond films, played Lurch on The Addams Family. However, it was Ted Cassidy who played Lurch, and appeared in TOS as Ruk in "What Are Little Girls Made Of?".

And was also the voice of Balok and the Gorn captain.

I never understood how people could confuse Richard Kiel for Ted Cassidy. I mean, sure, they were both really tall, but I don't think they looked that similar otherwise. And Cassidy could actually act.

Oh, you're right. That's what happens when I post while sleep-deprived.

First time it's ever happened for me. In my case, it helps to only be on about three hours sleep. :)

Andreas Katsulas played a Romulan commander, Tomalak (TNG). :vulcan:

Well, maybe its not surprising, he got the role of G'Kar (Babylon 5).

For reasons that defy logic, we were talking about Electra Woman and Dyna Girl on a hobby board I frequent. Someone dug up an episode on Youtube, and there was, who else, Malachai Throne, as the evil Ali Baba!

And yes, the evil genie lurking behind him is Sid Haig.

Sid Haig was, of course, the main villain Dragos in Filmation's Jason of Star Command in '79-'80. James Doohan was also a regular in the show's first season.

Christopher, to be fair to Richard Kiel, he started young, with his big break I believe being playing the alien race(every single member!) in the Twilight Zone episode To Serve Man, before moving on to a laundry list of heavies, including Jaws in the Bond films, losing the role of The Incredible Hulk because while he was tall, and had huge hands and feet, he wasn't particularly muscular, and somewhere along the way learning how to act. Maybe not award winningly well, but believably.

Of equal interest is that upon his death just over a year ago, he set a record among people with his medical condition of acromegaly; to wit, he became one of, if not the, longest lived acromegalic in medical records history. The average lifespan for an acromegalic, like Andre the Giant for instance, is around 45. Richard Kiel reached 74.

Off topic, but something to take note of.

That looks a lot like his role as "The Thief from Outer Space" on Lost in Space, in which his henchman was Ted Cassidy (Ruk in WALGMO).

And I notice on imdb that Sid Haig was a lawgiver in "Return of the Archons."

...which is why I mentioned him, but forgot to mention WHY I mentioned him. :borg:
