Trek guest actors in maybe surprising roles

There's a story behind 'George Francisco'. It seems when the film was in production the script had been written with the character named 'George Jetson', and most of the film had been shot when they received word that Hanna-Barbera Productions would not release the character name for them to use. They scrambled to come up with another name and came up with Sam Francisco, and had his human partner complain about it, insisting he instead call him George. This way they didn't have to reshoot any critical scenes where the character was already addressed as George.

Then the series had everyone call him George.:wtf:

Thanks -- I considered telling that story myself, but I didn't feel like explaining it unless someone asked.

it always kind of bugged me that they established that the real name of George Francisco -- who'd been named Sam Francisco by the INS and nicknamed George by his partner -- was Stangya Soren'tzaah. With a name like that, you'd think they would've called him Stanley Sorenson.

I doubt the aliens spoke English when they came to Earth. The INS people probably didn't even know their real names.

^ Ok, I laughed at that...imagined classic folk songs interpreted with a Nilz Baris voice and attitude..

"Blowin' in the wind? ON MY GRAIN?" :guffaw:

He was wearing a moustache, too. I almost wouldn't have recognized him.

ETA: Well lookee here....

No I only meant his family was descended from German Lutherans not that he was German himself, Riu!

Mannix has been very disappointing lately, as the episodes I'm watching move through the 1970s. Formerly a goldmine, there haven't been any Trek guest stars in many an episode. :(

Watched a 1967 Batman rerun recently on IFC that had some Trek connections:

The title: "A Piece of the Action"

The villain: Roger C. Carmel (Harry Mudd) as Col. Gumm

Background player: Angelique Pettyjohn (Shahna, the Drill-Thrall) as a lingerie model

Trek's own "Piece of the Action" didn't air until 1968.

How about a rare TAS guest star? Ed Bishop, who played Asmodeus in "The Magicks of Megas-tu," starred as Commander Ed Straker in Gerry Anderson's UFO, which is available on Hulu. While we're at it, the episode "Destruction" featured a TNG guest star, Stephanie Beacham. Oh, and the recurring character of Col. Virginia Lake was played by a family member of a movie guest star: Wanda Ventham, the mother of Benedict Cumberbatch.

And there's David Opatoshu as an Indian in a 1970 episode of Daniel Boone...

...and Vic Perrin running a crooked sanitarium on The Big Valley....

I was watching the 1950 film "The Asphalt Jungle" yesterday and noticed the actor who portrayed Bela Okmyx (Anthony Caruso) as one of the 'hoods' looking to get rich in the film's heist.

The film is noted for being one of Marilyn Monroe's early films.

Last night's episode of "The Man from UNCLE" on Me-TV was a twofer: We had Marla McIvers AND the Greek god Apollo!

I just watched two episodes of the Roger Moore series "The Saint."

Kate Woodville aka Natira from Season 3 TOS, is 'The Saint' girl in the Season 3 episode 'The Scorpion.' She wears the short 1960s hairstyle Yvonne Craig wore in the "Batman" series.
