Trek guest actors in maybe surprising roles

Overnight on MeTV there was an episode of THE TIME TUNNEL called "The Walls Of Jericho". Arnold Moss (Karidian) played a priest named Malek.

And Abraham Sofaer ("Thasian" , voice of the Melkot) played Rahab's father.

I picked up a 1954 TV series called Science Fiction Theater on DVD from Amazon. Episode 2, "Time is Just a Place," tells the story of a new neighbor acting very strangely. Could he be... a time traveler? Maybe, maybe not, but he was definitely Warren Stevens. One of the devices he cobbled together with his advanced scientific knowledge was a Roomba!

OMG look at this! A 1955 episode of Science Fiction Theater titled "Y.O.R.D." features a bunch of guys in an arctic Army research base strangely afflicted with ESP. Guess who the base doctor is!

I mean, even the pose with the hypo!

Also, the base commander was Kenneth Toby. I guess as long as he solved that problem with The Thing, they let him stay.

James Daly ("Requiem For Methuselah") appearing in the pilot episode of THE INVADERS as David Vincent's business partner.

Robert Lansing was originally cast in the role of Asmodeus, the Park Ranger, in the 1970 movie "Equinox", but had to bow out due to other commitments. The part was played by the director Jack Woods. Consider it a 'surprising role', that might have been.

I love it when I just turn the TV on and there's someone for this thread. Heroes and Icons is running The High Chapparal, S1 E24, "Tiger by the Tail," and said tiger (el Tigre) is played by Ricardo Montalban.

I'm currently watching the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of the 1974 film It Lives By Night as a part of the "Let's Have a Patrick Swayze Christmas" Marathon livestream over on the MST3K YouTube channel.

Paul Carr (Lee Kelso in WNMHGB) just popped up as a doctor and has a glorious 1970s mustache. Michael Pataki (Korax in "The Trouble with Tribbles") is also going to appear as a cop later on.

EDIT: Pataki has just shown up. He's playing a sergeant in a cowboy hat and also has a mustache. He's doing a southern accent, too.

Do Klingons speak English with a Klingon accent, too? :klingon:

SKIPPY!!
A 1955 episode of Science Fiction Theater luridly titled "Death at
2AM" features Skip Homier as a scientist suspected of the bare-handed murder of a fellow scientist who's trying to get him fired. The plot involves experiments to increase human strength thru the science of biochemistry.

And channel-surfed onto The High Chaparral again, just in time to see Paul Fix get shot in the back. S1 E25, "The Peacemaker." Featured Barbara Hershey as an Indian maiden :shifty:.

My wife and I were doing our nightly watch of the old Perry Mason series – we’re up to Season 9 (the last). I thought that the young doctor in tonight's sounded a lot like Leonard Nimoy. When I got a good look at his face, I decided it wasn’t that man, but pretty close.

I looked up the name and found it was Lawrence Montaigne, who played another Vulcan on Star Trek. I think he’s the guy who Mister Spock’s gal-in-Kalamazoo-on-Vulcan falls for, causing Spock and Kirk to fight to the death.

It seems reasonable that the Trek producers looked for someone who strongly suggested the prototype. Montaigne played a Vulcan (1966 and ‘67) in Star Trek s01e14. “Balance of Terror,” and s02e01, “Amok Time,” two of the best-remembered Treks.

Also in the Perry Mason episode (“The Case of the Carefree Coronary,” Oct 1965) are sf vet Whit Bissell, and Bruce Bennett (still one of the best screen Tarzans ever).

Another episode of Science Fiction Theater, "100 years Young," from 1955 featured John Abbot as a 200 year old man, living long thanks to an ancient Native American herb formula that scientist Ruth Hussey tries to recreate.

In "Balance of Terror" (the Season 1 ep), Montaigne played the role of Romulan Sub-commander Decius, who got cocky and sent off an unauthorized message, for which action he was penalized by being "reduced two steps in rank".

Watching another first season Carol Burnett (1967) on Shout Factory, and there's Schallert again. They needed a 90-year-old uncle, so he's doing the Old Admiral schtick he also did on Get Smart.

I think he got called on to do variations on that character fairly often. Another one which comes to mind is his doddering eccentric rich guy on WWW:

In same episode are Robert Ellenstein

and Sherry Jackson (with Ross Martin now taking the place of Ellenstein's character).

Reggie Nalder and Gregg Palmer were in the cast too, but I wasn't able to quickly find screencaps of them from that ep.

Back to Rawhide in my lunchtime rotation. "Incident of His Brother's Keeper" blesses us with Susan Oliver as the unhappy wife of crippled cattleman (and proposed Capt Kirk) Jack Lord.
