Trek Fan To Restore Enterprise D Bridge

With the technology we have today, I can imagine this thing could practically have all the right touchpad technology to give it a 'real' feel.

That would be awesome. Restore it, then add functional displays programmed to mimic look/function/sound depending on episode.

I'd like to see a big RV done up with a bridge and helm/ops stations at the driver/passenger seats.

I'd like to see it turned into an Enterprise Simulator, you know of the sort shown in the Wrath of Khan. Then have people pay to fight klingons and so forth. might make an incredible arcade game.

There's a starship bridge simulator game called "Artemis" which is designed to network several PCs together each representing a different station, and a view screen, so that people can do missions together. If such a simulation engine could be re-skinned so the interfaces were LCARS, and installed into this bridge, your idea of creating a re-programmable bridge scenario simulator could become a reality.

Somehow, I doubt they'd be allowed to have "exploding" consoles like in TWoK, though!

Also, how big was the E-D viewscreen in-person? You might get an actual, single, monitor that big these days, but at some price.

Why wouldn't you just go with an HD projector? :vulcan:

Projectors only really work in a darkened room. The E-D bridge was well-lit at all times (well, apart from the alternate universe of Yesterday's Enterprise & the altered version from ST: Generations).

A new video has been produced, with Ronald D. Moore personally supporting the project:

Everything has not gone according to plan. There was some mismanagement of the project according to several reports (not surprisingly), so it's behind schedule and has also grown in scope. They're still touring with the few chairs and backdrop though.

Original or not, I think it is cool that the fan is doing this...any little (or big) bit of Star Trek saved for the future is a good thing...and, in this case, surely at no small expense...

I doubt its going to happen. The bridge still isnt fully restored and now its going to be a museum with content which probably would be of a value a million dollars or more (large high detailed ship models arent cheap).

Why stop with the Birdge, though? I think there's a good deal of Trek fans who'd pay money to roam a small hotel ship: the Bridge, Engineering (full height as well), Sick Bay, transporter rooms, cargo bays, main shuttle bay, cooridoors, Jeffries tubes, Ten-Forward, elevators designed to look like the lifts in the show, etc.

And an off-shoot one for maybe part of a Borg ship, a Romulan bridge, a Klingon bridge.

I´m following them on facebook...there hasn´t been a progress update for ages. Anything they post now is just "went to this convention"..."met that guy from star trek"...blah blah blah

I was tangentially involved in the project not long after it got started. In my honest opinion, and I stress that this is just my opinion, they are being far too ambitious, and the vibe I was getting is that there's isn't a clear view on what they want to achieve or exactly how they will accomplish it.

Good on them (him, essentially) for trying, and it's an amazing project, but they're simply trying to do too much, with no real plan. Of course I may be wrong, but that's what I was getting from the correspondence I had.
