Trek collections

I love that display, Todd. I think it's a lot better to have a quaint little shelf than a freaking warehouse worth of stuff like some other collections I've seen. It seems more personalized and less bloated. I think it's adorable to collect customized Star Trek candy. I'd never heard of it and any merch associated with "Star Trek: First Contact" is A-okay with me. It amuses me that candy would be marketed that way. What does it have to do with the movie? Is the candy actually shaped like people or things exclusive to the movie? :D

Back in the mid-90's, I collected action figures and books. Hell, Star Trek novels were some of the first novels I read. But now, I really don't collect anything Star Trek related. Well, except random internet pictures :p

Nice trek collection everyone, sadly the only thing I have collection of are my old pair of jeans. All of star trek figues were giving away when i turned 18.

I've been collecting for awhile from figures, models, books to comics. My favorite thing that I collect though is prints from Light Speed Fine Art. Have bought several over the years and have collected signatures on them. Have one print with all incarnations of the Enterprise on it with all TOS actors except DeForest Kelly on it. That includes Majael Barrett and all TNG actors. A DS9 print with all but Colm Meaney on it. An Enterprise print with all but Linda Park on it. And a Voyager print with all but R. Dawson on it. The print with all TOS and TNG took me 12 years to complete. Finished it last year in Vegas with Patrick Stewart.

Some impressive collections here, and I agree that a smaller collection typically has a little more personality and charm.

I've got the dvds for TOS, TNG, DS9 and the films, A Picard action figure, and a really cool TOS clock

Thanks. I'm a sucker for promotional food items and have a fair amount of super hero food items (Superman Peanut Butter, Spider-Man Cereal, etc.) and eventually the interest bled over into Trek stuff.

As far as the candy bars go, I think they all had a different ship on each one. I only opened one and it had the Vulcan ship on it, thereby spoiling the end of the film.

I've also got some Romulan Ale. Alcoholic version:

And nonalcoholic version:

And, of course, TNG Oreos:

There is no particular rhyme or reason to what i've collected over the years. I just buy what i like and can afford. Most of the vintage things i have were lucky finds at yard sales:

Hey Randi, I also had that plastic Enterprise toy set from 1973 (or thereabouts). I was three at the time and me an my mom spent hours playing with it. For some reason she always wanted to be Scotty....

I don't remember that figure of Lokai (or is that Bele?) though. I had Spock. I don't see him in your picture.

As for what I collect. I have every episode and movie ever made on DVD, as well as DVD-R's of various TV specials related to Star Trek. And I have all the novels from but publishers, and several of the comics in TPB form.

I also have all the ornaments from 1992-2003 and only stopped collecting those when my mom died. That was her standard Christmas gift to me for a decade, and I just wasn't interested in buying any more after that.

I also had a Star Trek beach towel but that finally disintegrated from over-use.

Totally awesome, all of it. I would have loved to buy any of that. While I wouldn't drink the drinks, it would be cool just to have the bottles or cans. The only Star Trek-related foods I've ever bought were the chocolate-shaped Defiant and the Eggos that came out after the last movie.

Those were fun. I made sure to take plenty of pictures before I ate them. :D I'm really impressed with the little detail on the "Star Trek: First Contact" bars having the wrappers gold coloured and labelled "gold-pressed latinum". Bless the marketing person/people who decided to include that...a really sweet gesture to make it an extra special treat for fans with their attention to detail.

That chocolate Defiant was my white whale. I wanted it bad but couldn't find it anywhere. I'm not sure they even sold it in the U.S.

I just realized, I should have said "Defiant-shaped chocolate", not "chocolate-shaped Defiant". I don't know if they were sold in the U.S., either, but I'm sure some other members can tell us. I'm from Canada and that's where mine was purchased.

I am mostly into collecting toys although I am going to start collecting anything Trek. I have all of the TNG crew from Art Asylum/Diamond Select, the TOS crew action figures, almost the whole line of TNG novels, and 12" Quark and Worf figures.

^ DS9 be incredibly careful about purchasing Star Trek crap online. Most sellers are notorious liars when it comes for them to be truthful about their products. I purchased what was supposed to be a brand new mint book, only to find it had been written in and with 1975 in purple texta scrawled on the spine.

Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you collectors could help me. I recently purchased a Data on Ebay. The item description said new in package (I know what was I thinking), anyway I can't find an adequate guide to say what condition a new in package item should be in. What is the acceptable amount of wear and tear and should the figure have this sticky splodge on its body. Honestly, I shudder to think what it is exactly.

Thanks.

Someone testing the fully functional warranty no doubt.

:guffaw:. Dear god I hope not.

Has anybody else experienced sticky stains on figures though? I haven't, but I know back in the days when Art Asylum was making them they experimented with new techniques and maybe this is a by-product of that or a sloppy paint application.

GAH! I ran to the case when i read your post and realized Spock was "missing". But thankfully, he is still in there, just hiding behind Scotty.

Awwww......i'm sorry about your mom. Now i want to buy you the ornies you're missing.

Does it look like the packaging was tampered with? Like, maybe it had been opened but then reglued closed? Have you tried contacting the seller? If you look at the seller's picture on the auction page, can you see the goop now that you are aware it is there?

I don't know about the figures, but i collect some vintage dolls that over time get sort of goopy. It's the vinyl breaking down over the years. Maybe the figures do that?

If you paid a lot of money, you might want to contact the seller and see if you can return the figure. PM me if you need assistance with that. I'll be happy to help you out. :)

Thanks Randi for being so helpful.

Yes, half the packaging has come away. Though, I'm not really sure you can blame the seller there as Art Asylum/Diamond Select has used some really cheap adhesive and the bubble plastic has started to come away from the cardboard backing on many of my figures. Which really bites as I like to always have at least one MOC.

No, I didn't pay a lot of money (compared to a T'pol console at any rate), but I think it is the principle of the thing. I didn't think new in package would be so terrible. As for the picture, the lighting of the image totally obscures where the cardboard is coming away from the plastic and as for the goop not a trace of it.

It probably is a manufacturing fault, but in my years of collecting ST figures, I've never seen anything like it. It covers nearly all his torso and looks like this clear congealed blob.

I'll just grin and bear it this time, as the user has sold 1000s of items and I've only purchased a few items in the past month, so the negative feedback will hurt me more than them.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my rambling.

Josie, my personal opinion is you should notify the seller. If the packaging had come away before he shipped the pkg to you, it should have been mentioned in the auction listing. If it happened during shipment, he is at fault. Either way, you shouldn't have to pay for the item since he either falsely advertised it (as being mint when it clearly wasn') or for poorly packing the item. I sell on ebay and i have strict codes as to how i sell and wish everyone else did the same.

He cannot give you negative fb (which you dont deserve here, but i do disagree with ebay's change in the f/b policy, that buyers cannot get neg'd.)

From how you are describing the condition, i'd definitely contact the seller. If you paid by paypal there is little doubt that you WILL get your money back.

Like you said, its the principle of the thing. PM if you need more help.

I have many things of which I would never have except for a friend helping out. I have a lot, and I mean a lot, of models, books and action figures. I have all the movie soundtracks, and the extended scores of the few that were released. I have some of the TV show soundtracks. DVES of all the movies, all of TOS, TAS, all but two of TNG, one of voyager and one or two of the collections (Borg and Q I think.) Most of this, if not all, my wife would be more than happy to give away.

Thanks again Randi. Unfortunately the item was not listed as mint, just new in package. I have not been able to find a clear definition for collectors of what new in package actually means. I know it isn't meant to be mint or perfect.

I think I'll email the seller and just inform them they shouldn't be so vague in future. Maybe it can help future customers. I'll reply as to what happens.

All I can say Randi is I wish I had Ebay dealings with you. On the whole I guess I was a little harsh on Star Trek sellers on Ebay and Amazon, but I kid you not this is about the fifteenth time I've had issues with Star Trek sellers and their products with either resealing their figures again after use and pretending they are new or read books with heavy spinal creases and words written in the books trying to pass off as new (with as new prices to boot). Hell, even today a Romulan off GoHastings arrived, and half the package had been torn open and looked as if had been used.

Thanks heaps Randi for telling me about the f/b thing. I never knew that. Though I sort of disagree with you about the f/b thing. I always use paypal (yes the Data was purchased through paypal) and get really frustrated when sellers wait until the buyer leaves feedback. I can understand this I suppose, as no doubt some buyers probably would abuse the system and give negative f/b out of spite or perceived slow shipping, but most buyers are honest and just want their product.
