Trek Books You Read in 2014

All the books I've read this year have been Star Trek books, both fiction and non-fiction.

I read:

NON-FICTION

3) Gene Roddenberry The Myth & The Man
4) Inside Trek by Susan Sackett
5) Inside Star Trek by Solow & Justman (loved this)
6) The Making of Star Trek by Whitfield
7) The Making of Star Trek: The Motion Picture
8) The Making of Star Trek II
9) Captain's Log: Shatner's Personal Account on Making of Trek V---surprised how candid this was because I was expecting it to be on the fluffy side.

10) I Am Not Spock
11) I Am Spock
12) DeForest Kelley: From Sawdust to Stardust
13) Chekov's Enterprise
14) Beam Me Up, Scotty: James Doohan Autobiography
15) The Longest Trek by Grace Lee Whitney
16) View From The Bridge by Nicholas Meyer

All these non-fiction books are recommended. I know some people aren't very interested in the actor biographies, but I am and I enjoyed them all in varying degrees.



Fiction:

1) The Covenant of the Crown by Howard Weinstein (loved this, especially the Spock & McCoy stuff, which I thought he nailed.)

2) Ex Machina (enjoyed it, though it's deliberately paced)

3) Spock Must Die (this is perhaps the only Trek book I read this year that I didn't care for. It's a curiousity.)

4) Mission to Horatius (Kids book, but I thought it got the characters and feel of TOS very well. Worth a look.)

5) Vulcan's Glory (This was very good, I wish Fontana had written more Trek Lit)

Well, take a look at the second one on the list. That's a comic anthology. If most of that list is comics or comic anthologies, 143 isn't all that impressive. If those are just a small part of what he read, then it's much more impressive. I'd never imply that comics aren't books, but they're not exactly like reading war and Peace or the latest 1,000 page novel from Stephen King either.

Still, it's likely far more than I read this year. Many more hours at work, building a house, and moving twice took its toll on my reading time this year. Great job Stevil2001!

Ah! Are those mostly comics? If so, then I can imagine how he was able to squeeze in so many books. They're quicker to get through.

Not necessarily. I mean, he only listed three and only one of those was a comic. It could be that that was the only comic he read. Heck, the other 140 could've all been 1,000 page novels. Some people just read insanely fast. 143 does sound like a lot though for all of those to be novels. That's close to an average of three a week. Personally, I have a family, something resembling a social life, and I put in about 55 hours a week at work, so I can't imagine reading that much or that fast. Other people have no lives and do absolutely nothing but read. Some have lives every bit as busy as mine and more and still find time to read that much. What seems impossible to us is second nature to some people.

I read 150+ books a year, mostly nonfiction, and I find the time by....well, reading all the time. I wake up, I'm reading over breakfast. At lunch, I read. At supper -- I read, and then after supper I drink coffee and read more. I read DURING work sometimes, if it's slow and I can find a computer version. I'm a fast reader -- my parents kept televisions out of the house, so as a kid that was what I did, if I wasn't running around in the woods. When I get home from work, it's usually dark, and the only thing I have to do is read or listen to podcasts. So I read, then listen to a podcast, then read more. It's a little different during the summer or spring..

Wow I'm so envious. I wish I could read that much. But sometimes I can't sit still. (Sometimes I wonder if I have Adult ADHD.)

Bfollowell, I know what you mean. Watchmen took me a few days to get through---great read. But I've sometimes read through a TPB in one sitting, (albeit a thinner one.)
