Trek BBS - Best of the Decade 2000-2009

I don't know if it has simply escaped people's notice or people just don't care, but we are fast approaching the end of the first full decade of, not only the 21st century, but of TrekBBS itself. "It's been a long road" would be the understatement of the...well, you know.

So I thought I'd start us off here, with a nice, catch-all thread dedicated to all the things that make us smile here and things that made us go . All the people who made us laugh and the ones we will miss. All of the good times and the not-so-good times. Not a self-congratulatory hug-fest, but an honest to goodness look back.

I'm not going to arbitrarily limit what each of us considers "the best or worst". Rather, I'll just rattle off a bunch of the basics and let you get rolling from here. And remember, this thread is open to all members, whether you've been here for ten weeks or along for most of the ride.

Some notes: You can, if you wish, include the categories I'm listing here and add or replace them with your own. For the interest of those who wish to follow along, please keep your lists of categories (but not necessarily the content) short. Bold and number each category.

The first Mad Baggins thread. I thought he stayed funny until the end of his reign but God it was hilarious that first time around.

I don't know. None come to mind.

5. Funniest Member of the Decade

Discounting Mad Baggins as I already mentioned him I'm going to go with Holdfast. That guy is funny as all hell. He's got that dry but edgy humor.

Too many. Too, too many. NCC-1701, or maybe Ghost. I dunno.

2. Best Forum of the Decade
An honourable and fond nod, nostalgic that, to the Fan Fiction forum, where I once had a lot of hyper-drama and once a screed written suggesting I had sexual liasions with Leonard Nimoy (it was meant as an insult.) I also coined the rather trite tag-line, weeee (this was back before the Fan Productions forum, you must understand). Gosh wasn't I condescending?

3. Best Thread of the Decade
I dunno... the one where where'sSaavik? outed himself as a guy? That had a memorable OP, anyway. 'I have a penis!' Maybe this really long one I had once about 2001, only I don't remember what it was called. We analysed goddamn everything, I even asked for a translation of what the Russian guy says on the space station (because maybe it means something!) Good days.

4. Former Member You Miss the Most
Mr. Stinky Pants, aka The God Thing. His highly iconoclastic take on the Trek franchise (TOS and TMP alone were good, and only the projects Roddenberry directly worked on were canon) combined with a deft wit and rather impressive - to a scientifically illiterate peon like me, anyway - command of technical details made him one of the more fun guys to read.

5. Funniest Member of the Decade
How many have been around that long anyway? Well, I found Temis the Vorta amusing in late 2000. That hasn't changed.

I knew he was more than a trifle odd to the point of seeming craziness, and he did have a rather sour view of how Eisenhower handled the Croat issue, but...

I'll go with Neroon. He has always been a steadying influence in SF&F (especially during the days when this board was more chaotic than anywhere else on the net).

2. Best Forum of the Decade

TNZ--The Neutral Zone has gone through many, many incarnations (some putting the whole place in danger of being shut-down forever), but the forum just keeps on ticking (largely thanks to T'Bonz). QSF might have have been in contention if it wasn't for its emasculation (also thanks to T'Bonz).

3. Best Thread of the Decade

Tough one... I'll go with MadBaggins's first thread (if only because most of the other crazy stuff over the years spread across multiple threads).

4. Former Member You Miss the Most

Plm135 was always interesting. I wonder what happened to him.

5. Funniest Member of the Decade

I'll go with Spaceman Spiff, but it's a tough call.

ITL - funny as all get-out and makes some amazing photoshop pictures

A tie between Fan-fiction (still my spiritual home, even if I'm not in there much at the moment) and Trek XI.

3. Best Thread of the Decade

Karl Urban - blond or brunet?

4. Former Member You Miss the Most

Hmm... I'd say RevdKathy except she hasn't actually left, she's just not as round as much. But she's the member I miss most, does that count?

5. Funniest Member of the Decade

Ahh... now, let's see... Zion Ravescene or cooleddie74 I think. Oh yeah, and Dayton Ward and David Mack

I already chose Neroon for best poster (mostly for his moderating in SF&F), so I'll choose T'Bonz. Granted, it was more for her administrative decisions (regarding QS&F and TNZ) than day-to-day moderating.

Sweet Mercy, this was difficult. I have now spent 20 minutes thinking about this one. Finally, after much mulling it over, I had to go with someone who I used to interact with almost constantly on this board, a good friend, a good guy with a great heart, and that would be Hoser.

2. Best Forum of the Decade
I wanted to say The Neutral Zone, but then I started thinking about all the great fun I had in the Commie Lounge, and how many wonderful friends I made there, so it has to be The Commie Lounge.

3. Best Thread of the Decade
This one was almost as tough as the choice for favorite member of the decade, but I have to go with Shatna's TrekBBS Comic threads (which featured a young Ambassador Class Starscape BBS, and also my comics entry with T'Bonz penchant for gas inducing Chinese food. ).

4. Former Member You Miss the Most
Tough one, but I'd have to say BlackDog.

5. Funniest Member of the Decade
Oh hell, that can only be Shatna for me, who has made me laugh hard on lots of occasions.

My choices will be somewhat skewed toward recent times, since I have the memory capacity of a goldfish with Alzheimer.

Shame on me, but it has to be Squiggy. He's an attention whore, but he never failed to deliver fun. For years. And it's all that matter for me. Honorable mentions for FlyingLemons and Holdfast, because both are seven kind of awesome.

2. Best Forum of the Decade
TNZ. TNZ. TNZ. Try saying it three times in front of a mirror.

3. Best Thread of the Decade
The World ending in 2012 = Bullshit thread, in which the level of Fire/Tachy/Legend FAIL has almost created a super-massive black hole that acquired both sentience and suicidal thoughts.

Mh. Difficult to say. Far from the eyes, far from the heart. Maybe Enterpriser, because he gave us hours of side-splitting laughs.

Shatmandu's brand of humor is not for everyone, but once you are accustomed, he's damn funny.
