Trek-based Board Games - Do you play them?

There have been several board games produced over the last 30 years - do any of you still play them and if so what makes them fun for you?

Cardinal Biggles and I used to play a ST:TNG board game back in the day. You had go around to various planets and get all diplomatic with them...or something like that. I guess it was okay, but we didn't play it all too often. By that time, he was getting out of playing board games except for Trivial Pursuit, which is now banned at our house after an incident over Christmas break.

I hope I'm not lynched for saying this but I must say that the mechanics of the Dechiper 1E Star Trek TNG Customizable Card Game worked very much as a board game in a way.

And it was very much in the spirit of the TV show. Simply put: You could use "spaceline" cards that represented a place and a mission. You would arrange them in a row before play and that would become the playing area, kind of like a board game. You could use "ship" cards to move your "personnel" from planet to planet and beam down away teams. Finally, when doing missions you would encounter "dilemma" cards, problems taken from the best episodes. You could overcome these problems with the right personnel. Often times the gameplay would mirror familiar episodes.

It was (still is) IMHO, the best kind of Trek board game I've ever played, and it wasn't even a board and needed no dice. Just the cards!

And there were some 2000-3000 cards making for an infinitely engaging gaming experience. What more could you want? :D

If you've never tried it, why not buy a couple starter decks from EBay? They're plenty cheap these days.
And the cards are visually stunning, beautifully designed. I never cared much for the 2E, though.

I used to play "Starfleet Battles" a combat simulation based in a TOS Star Trek universe..rule book was over 500 pages..and it'd take a day to play one scenario..but was great fun with beer and pretzels ..
it's still in production..

...Star Fleet Battles (SFB)...

Yeah, that game is still very strong...since 1979!

I played the Star Trek III Search For Spock Solitaire game (odd they'd make a solitare game for Trekkies, huh?). I also have a "TOS" Final rontier, board game, which was ok!

I have a star trek game that comes in a tin with a board, loads of cards, and little models of the Ent, Ent D, Defiant and Voyager.

But no-one ever plays me because I always win!
