Trek aesthetics

I think that despite how "cool" it is, the new JJ Abrams Enterprise is too bright... I don't even like all the damn lights in my office space now. For that, and for shorter missions, I'd much prefer the ambient lighting and colors of Voyager (about perfect), Defiant, or NX-01.

Prometheus was incredible in terms of "fit and finish", but out of the older ships, definitely ST:V or VI has the classic bridge I like most.

I think if I had to wander around the corridors of the Enterprise J... I'd feel like I was in a ghost ship, or long abandoned, haunted mansion. So dang big.. we don't know the crew compliment, but I'm thinking with all the automation that is sure to exist, you'd probably be able to walk for hours down those dark hallways and see maybe 2 people, tops.

According to Ed Whitefire, one of the original designers of the Galaxy Class Enterprise, that ships crew of around a thousand would give each person the equivalent of a football field worth of space. You could easily wander around for days without encountering anyone.

The Enterprise J is supposed to be so big that areas of the ship are treated like cities. Turbolifts are incapable of moving crew around the ship that big, they are supplemented with site to site beaming.

At 3.2Km in length, I would be pissed as an office aboard that ship if I was forced to have to walk even a third of that distance to get anywhere, provided there were no site to site transporters. That thing is massive!

The further cyan stays away from the aesthetics, the better. That is the most dreary, mind-numbing, soul-sucking color to have ever found its way into art. And whoever it was that told directors it was the best thing ever for making faces "pop," I hope they die in a fiery car wreck.

My preference is for the NX-01 or the Defiant. They're claustrophobic rather than psychedelic.

If a starship is going to be on a protracted mission (say five years) you'd think the colors and decorations would not be basically the same through-out the ship.

Not wonder the Enterprise D needed a onboard shrink.

JasonJ was referring to different ships in his post..
Got it. :techman:
I don't know that we can really characterise the J as full of dark empty corridors. We saw a short standing conversation in one corridor, that scene taking place while a battle for the future of the Federation was in progress outside the window. If there'd been extras strolling about with PADDs during that scene it would have looked ridiculous.

Prometheus reminded me of the Enterprise-A bridge at the end of STIV, that white-walls, shiny brand-new advanced look that JJ Abrams cranked up to 11 on his Enterprise in 2009

Was that the ep with the Dr and Andy Dick? That ship was pale yellow inside, and that may be my 2nd favorite bridge. First is TOS by a mile. Very last would be the Abrams thing.

True... that corridor scene just "felt" to me like it was a quiet, out of the way section. I'm sure Daniels picked it for that reason, so as to not be interrupted. Although, it makes you wonder just how good the intruder alert system is in the 25th century... seeing as how they weren't swarmed with security officers or newfangled intruder confrontation drones ... or something.

Prometheus bridge is great... it has a very ST:V/ST:VI feel to it.. and strategically, from a command perspective, it makes a lot of sense in it's design as well.

I've always been partial to the refit Enterprise from TMP. Liked the use of different colours for each deck and the overall layout. Just wish we could have seen the botanical gardens.
