Trashbash - Klingon Vessel

I nearly forgot - the nacelle struts are hinged. They pivot on the nails. Here's a couple shots of the nacelles up, courtesy of a rubber band.

You

FORGOT

about the hinged nacelles!?!?

That looks awesome! Well done, again! I think you may be inspiring some people here. I know I'm planning to build something now!

Very dramatic last image... You can get some really cool shots with a little practice. I took a green LED, placed it really close to the model to cast some dark sharp shadows, and took the pictures from angles that hid the light source...

I liked your LED suggestion and tried to do it but the LED wasn't putting out enough light for my camera. I used a small flashlight instead and got the following images:

The cloaked shot is amazing!

As is the model, really. Did you consider perhaps a layer of paint or varnish for a more uniform look?

I wouldn't do that. It'll look too glossy. And a matt clear coat won't make it look more uniform.

But look- under the right lighting, it does look uniform. And that's the thing with models. If you're taking pics under certain lighting conditions, the paint job can change dramatically. So the question becomes, do you paint it to look one way for display, or another way for film?

Thanks for the positive feedback and good tips everyone.

Has anyone else here done any trashbash model-making? If so, please post some pics. Though I've never heard it called trashbashing before, I know the pros have done it. Years ago, I remember watching a Making of documentary of a scifi movie - I think it was Saturn 3. I remember the model-makers using a wrist watch display case, like you'd find sitting on a counter at Walmart, to form the main body of a spacestation. I thought it was brilliant and inspiring (The model-making, not the film ;) )

not to be necroposting, but I have just saw this thread, and I have to say, this is one of the most original and bad@ss designs I have seen.
I really, really like this idea mate!
I think you have just opened another avenue for me to explore...
Thanks mate!

I have so much plastic junk and greebles, I think I might be better off giving them away. Using actual bits instead of trying to build something thru CGI allows opportunities to pop into ones head that you might not come up with alone.
