Transformers-The Democratic Republic of Carbombya

I was watching some old Transformers. I started "The Five Faces of Darkness." I started the second part of a chopped up Episode 1 of season 3. The Autobots go to the Democratic Republic of Carbombya(Car-bomb-ya if it isn't imnmediately apparent). Suddenly I remember some story about Casey Kasem quiting the show over it. He was offended by the way Arabs were shown and how the dictator was a mockery of Muammar Al-Gaddafi. Carbombya city has a population of 4,000 and 10,000 camels. So he quit the show.

Ahhh yes. I didn't catch this when I was a kid but while rewatching the series again a few years ago I totally caught it. About fell out of my chair in amazement. Really tells one about the differences from the mid 80's and today. I literally can't imagine if that happened today... loads of people would loose their jobs.

Meh, by then the show was in a rapid downhill spiral anyway. I re-watched the old G1 cartoons after seeing Revenge of the Fallen, trying to remind myself that Transformers was once a good idea. Aside from maybe a couple of moments, Season 3 was just awful (But still better than ROTF).

Yeah, I rewatched the series recently and kind of did an .... WHUT? Did they really just say that... during that episode.

Eh? Personally, I think pretty much anything is fair game when it comes to humor, including myself. Not everyone has the same view though....
