If there's a fourth

They could set half of it in prehistory with the Dinobots, perhaps unearthing them in the present.

And with Megatron dead (again!) perhaps it opens the door for him to be reborn as Galvatron

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

One thing... The prospects for a sequel seem rather dim... Weren't all the Decepticons killed in rather explicit/definitive ways? (i.en not repairable for a sequel) Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave all seem to be gone.

I suppose they could have other villains, but still...

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

Yeah, because the series doesn't make reviving characters a snap-of-the-fingers moment at all. No sir. Dead is dead, 100%.

Dammit! Why did you have to say that?! Now that you've put this idea out there Michael Bay can't use it because now he can't claim he came up with the idea first!

FUCK!!!

Oh well, I guess it hasn't stopped him before. (see: The Island)

Well they could always take a page from the '86 movie and have them reanimated as Galvatron, Scourge, etc.

there's plenty of dastardly dastard decepticons they can use; Thunderwing, the G1 Mega Pretender for one. the Headmasters, Targetmasters, Pretenders, Powermasters. Thundercracker, Skywarp, the triple changers, the Stunticons, the Combaticons, Ramjet, Thrust, Dirge...

i could go on...

i mean, they don't even have to use the -master parts of those guys, just use the characters. same with the Pretenders...

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

Amazingly.....

I like it. Transformers is not my style of movie. The first was "fluffy". I didn't see the second. But this movie was definitely above average, funny and spectacular to watch visually. It was a bit corny... The whole, "the needs of the many" line was so cliche it hurt even though most people don't know it and yes I caught the Spock refernces from Bumble Bee too. The pace was a bit funky in the beginning trying to get a rhythm between the prologue of past events and the day to day present day for the main character as they tried to thread all the elements they would need later in the story for the resolution, such as the Government woman whose not a ma'm the Boss that would eventually be revealed to be the bad guy justifying Wickwicky's hate and distrust. Or even the second boss that would be a crucial link in the plot devices. But after all that got going the movie FELT ABSOLUTELY EPIC. EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING.

Everyone clapped in the showing I went to, (Jacinto City Tinseltown) There were so many great moments. Bubble Bee was such a gripping character just by actions. Sentinel Prime's Role was very obvious in the film but it was used effectively. And while there was a bit of plot hole (just how did the Autobots get captured?) I like the writing in the film.

A rare 9/10 for Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

The violence offends me in a movie for kids just as much as the blatantly disgusting misogyny, and thinly veiled racism.

Those of us who grew up with the insanely violent (seriously, the smoke coming out of Prowl's eyes as die goes down still traumatises the hell out of me) and sexist (the female robot is pink and is the most useless of all the new characters) '86 film just about turned out OK, so todays kids should be able to cope.

Still the original film at least managed to avoid racism, which considering the same people gave us a middle eastern country called "Carbombya" in the cartoon shows remarkable restraint.

For people complaining about the jingoism, don't forget NEST is an international task force (sort of like UNIT in Doctor Who, it's run from the states and the main commander is a Yank but that's understandable considering the US had a head start on fighting Decepticons thanks to the events of the first film and the Autobots seem happy to be based there.

The second film actually went to great lengths to emphasise this, their headquarters was outside America, lots of national flags were on display and third in command (and pretty much the only other speaking role, the grunts could effectively be any nationality) was a Brit. And absolutely no one seemed to notice as there was still huge amounts of bitching and moaning about it being all American. Which is presumably why they haven't really bothered to make it clear this time round, though in fairness the American NEST base would most likely be staffed by their American troops.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

I noticed the multinational nature of NEST in the second one, the actor playing the British soldier is 'kinda' known British actor who some may have recognised from Blackhawk Down.

Its a shame he or any other character wasnt present from another country, but then I assumed things had moved on and there were now specific NEST units in different countries and we were seeing the one based in the US capital meaning US troops.

Already had Scorponok. Pretenders largely irrelevant since they can disguise themselves as humans.

Re: Transformers 3: Can a fan of G1 enjoy this movie?

Of course they can. I'm a fan of the G1 cartoon and I've enjoyed the movies for the most part.

i was a big time fan of G1. what have you liked other than the CGI?

the dialogue, characters that i loved from the G1 is completely absent.

lines like "Nothing defeats the Devastator. Nothing!"

"Foolish man of flesh."

"Bruticus ... devastate ... Devastator."

First, you're comparing the animated death of a robot to the disintegration of live action human beings and their skulls rolling around?

Second, you're comparing a robot being pink with a live woman being introduced by her ass, who the camera creepily caresses as someone describes the curves of a car, and is the only image onscreen when a character says "nice box?"

Third, even if these things were comparable (which they're not), saying some folk saw something over 20 years ago are fine so this is, too...just because something was acceptable decades ago doesn't make it so now. Besides, obviously we didn't turn out okay...we're making and enjoying these misogynistic images still to this day.

Re: Transformers 3: Can a fan of G1 enjoy this movie?

For me, the third was the most like a G1 story.

(in many ways reminding me of "The Ultimate Doom")

The only thing that really bothered me was that the violence seemed a little much in some parts.

Re: Transformers 3: Can a fan of G1 enjoy this movie?

as a whole, this series of movies were fine for popcorn flicks, but if they had put half as much effort as they did into the characterization of optimus, as they could have into the other autobots, as a G1 fan I would have been happier.
but all the other transformers are replacable 1 dimensional nobodies. The transformers all had such different, unique personalities and characterization in the old G1 cartoon.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

I saw this a second time last night and I enjoyed better than my first viewing. Still not perfect but I'd bump it to a solid 'B'.

OK so why didn't the Decepticons in '63-ish(according to the Russain spy photos) when they were cleaning the pillars out of the Ark on the moon not just attack the Earth? That was a question I had. In context it wasn't part of the plan I think. Megatron was still missing as of then. He wouldn't be activated till the first movie when 'Iceman' was freed from the damn.

So, Megs is free, why not attack now from the moon? Still need Sentinel.

How did Soundwave and his tunneler get to Earth? Not a question I've answered yet. As much as I dislike the second film maybe there is an answer there.

As for the "Hiding in the booster rocket" I'm fine with that. Those things are huge and in vehicle mode should fit easily, especially if one or two are in Primes trailer and of course their is no fuel in the rocket.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

I think Megatron's plan was to get to Earth, get the Allspark, convince the Fallen to come to Earth after dealing with Prime and then meet up with Sentinel Prime. Together they'd kill the Fallen and Megatron would assume total leadership of the Cons and have the support of the Autobot leader as well to unite both factions when they used the Space bridge to use humans as their slave reconstruction force.

But getting frozen for a 100 years put a spanner in his works.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

^^^^^
I think that is the scariest part of this. That a Bay saga seems to have an overarching timeline that when put together actually makes sense. A narrative that can be followed and placed together.

Now if I can just nail down how Shockwave and his digger got to Earth?

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

Loved it as I am a huge TF fan and collector.
I just wish that ol' one-eye had more screen time.
Don't really care about how certain characters ended up in certain locations... I think a film like this is best enjoyed with a tub of popcorn and not a lot of analysis on plot particulars.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Discuss, Grading, Reviews (SPOILE

I think folks complaining about Shockwave is sort of the point. He was a decoy villain to distract everyone from the real villain: Sentinel Prime. He was just there to stand around and distract our attention.
