One of them also includes some of the character profiles which originally appeared scattered throughout the old issues, but I'm a little puzzled over that because it's only a small number of characters (mainly Headmasters, Targetmasters etc). Why they'd include those characters and not more of the regular cast is strange to me. * shrugs *

They already did most of the original regular cast in a 4-issue series called Transformers Universe, around the same time the movie came out. They even included all the new movie characters in the 4th issue. Most of the later profiles were intended for another series of Transformers Universe comics, but it was scrapped, so they put many of them at the end of the regular comics instead.

Being a child of the '80s, I got the entire Marvel run sitting in a box somewhere, but it's been since the '80s since I read any of 'em. I did pick up the Dreamworks miniseries that showed a young Optimus rising into leadership of the Autobots on Cybertron, but I really haven't touched any of the IDW stuff.

My parents mysteriously "lost" almost my entire Transformers comics collection sometimes in the early/mid-90s. The toys are still in their attic... or so I believe...

Never collected the toys but the old comics were excellent, really put the cartoon series etc to shame
