Since filming has already started for the sequel. Some things that I found around the internet.

1. Shooting has been begun in Bethlehem PA. It is to represent a fictional Chinese City.

2. Roberto Orci has stated on the Don Murphy message board that there will be ten robots for each faction (Decepticons and Autobots) in the upcoming sequel to Transformers. He added that some robots will be "front and center," while others will be in more of a supporting role.

3. Below in the spoiler

TFW2005 Exclusive: Thanks to Tom Collins for letting us know that the Pontiac Solstice vehicle prop of Autobot Jazz arrived on the set of Transformers 2 earlier today. In addition we've received confirmation from a second tipster that Darius McCrary, the voice of Movie Jazz, is now on set as well. Source

I am excited about the last point.

Excellent. All we need now are some more guitar solos and we'll be set.

I just saw the video that was posted from the night shouting. Looks great. The youtube member, for the life of me that I can't remember the name of, posted with it, the music from the first film. This is just so damn exciting.
And of course just like the first film and when they started to film back in 2006, they are doing the first scene. Go figures.

I'm looking forward to the sequel...it should blow the first one away. Is anyone else worried though about the number of new cast members being signed over the last few weeks? I hope the story can handle all of these people and not loose sight of what is important, the war between the Autobots and Deception. I guess Starscream has been recruiting!

I grew up in Bethlemhem, PA and now live in Allentown, PA. I went last night to see the filming. Couldn't see much since a lot of it went way into the night. But here is a youtube link from people there seeing the filming from the first night. There are other links there for videos too. The Bethlehem Steel's BOF's (blast furnaces) are very visible in the videos. I remember when they were running as a kid and seeing the purple flames when we would drive by.

The first movie could very well be the dumbest movie since Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The whole thing was a joke, and did no one reread the script? Whatever happened to the parents? Why would you take the box to a city when you nkow the robots are after you? The whole thing is just so dumb.

Some people always like to be the party sourer.

Any spoilers on what they were shooting on the site?

The parents were told to keep quiet and let go. They are interviewed at the end of the movie by reporters and denied seeing any aliens. The dog was with them.

You take the box because it is harder to get to if your target can run in and out of buildings. In an open desert or field, Sam would have been uber easy to catch. Plus it's easier to find cover from firepower in the city.

Lol, clearly someone WASN'T able to get into the cheesy, over the top spirit of the movie. :D

And what's the problem with Mr and Mrs Smith? Sure it's no Bourne Identity but it's still a pretty solid action-comedy.

Nope, too many humans not enough killer robots. :p

The main problem with Mr. and Mrs. Smith is the movie was made. It is the lamest thing I had seen in awhile. They killed 10,000 people and never really got hurt. Plus they are shooting in the house and the house blows up and no one calls the cops.

It's the same problem with Transformers, they tried to cover up the impossible to cover up fact that alien robots fought in a city.

Michael Bay: "Let’s just say [this] is not a lame sequel."

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/06/0...-just-set-up-third-film-promises-michael-bay/

“You know how those sequels they do the second one so you go see the third one? ["Transformers 2”] is it,” he said, indicating that “2” would be its own story free from the duel shackles of set-up or resolution. “First one was just introducing, setting up stuff, so we can go a lot farther. Let’s just say [this] is not a lame sequel.”

If “Transformers” was all about introduction, then “Transformers 2” will be all about escalation, with reports that upwards of 20 robots will do battle in the blockbuster sequel. But for Bay, it’s not the number of robots present, but how they’ll be more fully and individually realized that has him excited, he said.

“The robots are going to surprise a lot of people because we go with a lot of different levels,” he teased.

I'm picturing a massive CGI shot of 20 robots that can't be identified because they look like tin foil colliding.

Also the second movie title as of right now is

Transformers 2 - Revenge of the Fallen

Oh man, my head is already hurting thinking about this.

Seeing as you seem to hate the original more than any person should hate any movie, and seeing as how you seem destined to hate TF2, and seeing as how you can't resist popping into every TF thread that has ever been created to tell everyone what a shit movie it is, it's probably wise that you avoid all future topics concerning the movie lest you get a brain aneurysm from all those headaches.

You gotta admit, he's got a good point about the sequel thing. I'd MUCH rather see a standalone story than something like BTTF2, Matrix 2, or Pirates 2 that spent so much energy trying to set up the 3rd movie that they failed to be great movies on their own.

Thank goodness. I'm tired of these back-to-back sequels that are really just one story stretched into two movies.

That's true, and makes sense, its certainly how I rationalise it, but its not really articulated properly in the film. Its kind of funny, something like TNG would have had an entire episode debating about the ethics of letting people in the city get hurt and whether there was another option. In Transformers its just "WE HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE CITY!" and everyone saddles up :D

Yeah the dialogue flies by so fast (like everything else in the movie) that you never really notice it the first time. But there's definitely a brief exchange in there where they explain the Century City thing.

But they probably could have made a better case for just how dangerous the all-spark could be if the Decepticons got ahold of it, and that the loss of a few lives in one city would be preferable to the alternative.
