Training crew in Wrath of Khan

Commander
Red Shirt
In regards to the training crew in TWOK, most of the traing crew were in, I believe, cadet uniforms, the ones with the white on top. Yet some like Savvik, were in the same unifoems as the rest, just with orange instead of white or grey, Were Savvik and others in the same uniforms as her cadets? Did they all already graduate?

Ottens,
Thanks for the info, I always forget about that site. So why was she called "lieutenant"?
Also the engineering uniforms , the all white ones I mean, why was Scottys collar black if that signifies enlisted?

Saavik is in Command School, like being a graduate student. She already has her commission and has gone back to the Academy for more training.

Indeed, despite what Memory Alpha or other sources might say, the movie itself does not associate Saavik (or any other of the redcollars who wear officer rank) with the designation "Cadet". They may fall under the general category of "trainee", but probably they aren't cadets striving to become officers.

While the Kobayashi Maru test seemed to be a test for Saavik's personality and command style only, there were no doubt many other people being trained on that occasion - possibly everybody else but the people "played" by our officer heroes.

It also seems that an entire shipful of people, or at least an entire bridgeful, were being trained as a unit for service aboard a specific ship; that's how we train astronauts today, although it's not how we train soldiers. This group would have included some cadets (training to become officers), some enlisted trainees (training to become enlisted personnel), and some commissioned officers (training to become higher-ranked commissioned officers with extended command privileges). It seems the first two sub-groups would wear the jumpsuits with red collars, while the last group would wear officer tunics and pants but the red training collar.

Black doesn't signify enlisted. The enlisted uniform happens to have a black collar (or maybe undershirt). If you look closely, you'll see that the left sleeve band and collar tabs are the division color.

According to the guy who designed those costumes, the division colors are:

White: Command
Grey: Science
Gold: Engineering
Light Green: Medical
Dark Green: Security
Light Blue: Special Services
Red: Training

All these colors were seen onscreen at least twice, and mostly fit with what the wearer was doing, although there are a few errors. Star Trek V added a new color, dark blue, worn by the landing party redshirts. Since Security's already got a color, the best guess is that the blue is for a Marine Corps. The color would fit, but so far as I know there's no official backstage word on it, let alone a confirmation onscreen.

Saavik is in Command School, like being a graduate student. She already has her commission and has gone back to the Academy for more training.

That's long been my assumption too.
