tourist attraction

i have an idea for a tourist attraction obviously. what if some one were to build a full scale mock up of the internal structure of a starship (defiant for example) a place where you can do "missions" as they would've been done in relation to what you see in the show. tapping on panels sends commands or brings up information as it would if it were real. of course it could also be used as a hotel to cater to the trek fan base, or what ever else an attraction like this may warrant. from walking through corridors to "fixing" something in a jefferies tube. what does everyone think about this?

in theory it's a good idea. if it was like when trek was at it's height it would have been a money maker. But now i dont think it would make enough money to break even.

mind you saying that if one was built tomorrow I would probably be one of the first people in the que to have a go:)

If the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas couldn't make money, how will this? This will be even more expensive to build and maintain, and appeal to an even narrower subset of fans.

I can't prove it, but ST: The Experience likely made money for years, otherwise it would have been closed long before it did. I made it there in it's final year, and our tour guide admitted that attendance had fallen steadily over the years and it would likely close soon.

another idea would be just to do several mock ups of the different bridges, that way you can have several groups playing bridge crew, and have them fight each other ship to ship combat.

Or they could all stay home and play Bridge Commander. Best Trek game EVAH!

While the concept is kinda fun, in practice it doesn't make too much sense. EVERYONE wants to be the Captain, or failing that the helm officer or tactical guy. If you can't command, fly, or shoot things, what are you doing? Pushing buttons to transfer power? Scanning stuff and repeating what the screen says back to you? ANSWERING THE PHONE?! Some of us wouldn't mind that job, but if I were to pay $30-50+ for the experience, I'd want to spend my time on the bridge doing less boring stuff.

Disney had SOME fun stuff going with their Mission: Space theme ride over at Epcot. You were part of a four-man crew and each of you had to push one of two buttons in the right sequence for a successful mission (firing rockets, initiating crew hibernation, etc.) and based on the "score", you would land successfully or crash into a ravine. Still, you were in that ride for the RIDE more than pushing buttons.
