Total Recall - Recalled...

I think Highlander is ripe for a reboot. Interesting concept that never went anywhere (I include the first movie), and the TV show had more bad episodes than good.

How about a modern update of The Last Starfighter? But instead of one starfighter recruit, there are 500,000 all under the age of 16 because of the Xbox, PS3, Wii and PC, and after they get bored training, they'll start shooting each other and calling everyone noobs and fags. It'll be a 15 minute long movie!

With 25 minutes of swearing and making comments about each others' mothers!:guffaw:

^It will never end. Human creativity has always involved revisiting and reinvigorating past ideas. Indeed, the concept that a work of fiction should be original is historically a rather recent innovation. All the great works of ancient literature and drama were retellings of myth, legend, and history rather than newly invented tales. The whole reason "novels" are called that is because it was unusual at the time of the medium's emergence for new (novel) stories to exist.

All human creativity is a dialogue with the past. Every creation builds on past ideas to one extent or another. Really, look at any random "original" movie and tell me it isn't just rehashing a story you've seen a hundred times before, just with the names changed.

Retelling stories keeps them alive and relevant. It's not a bad thing. Where would we be culturally if nobody in the past had ever retold the stories of Hercules or Odysseus or Sindbad or Gilgamesh or Siegfried? What a tragedy it would be if the great stories of the past were left to rot and be forgotten because of some blind devotion to novelty.

It's listed in there. Somewhere. Forgot to add Ghostbusters to the remake list.

I thought Ghostbusters was going to be Ghostbusters 3 or Ghostbusters the next gen. A complete remake. Who would they get to play Slimer?

^No, not a remake, a sequel. The idea I've read is that the original Ghostbusters will appear and pass the torch to a new generation, kind of like the Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon but with the whole original team. Dan Aykroyd has said he'd like to see at least one female Ghostbuster on the new team and has mentioned Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku as candidates he'd be interested in seeing (though I'm not sure how much influence he'd actually have over the casting process).

I should amend it to remake and sequel, although some sequels are really more like prequels or retellings. Ghostbusters is a sequel but it's also an attempt to reboot the franchise without wiping out the existing history.

Exactly. It's not a remake because it's not retelling a specific story, but is reviving the franchise with a new story.

Alyssa Milano is voicing a new character in the upcoming Ghostbusters: The Game, which takes place after the second film. My guess is they would like to carry this character over from the game to the film.

This is very upsetting. First off, its such a classic and I can't imagine who they are going to find to fill the shoes of our dear Governator. It was made in 1990, which isn't that long ago (in movieland these days, I guess they must be running out of ideas)

Its distressing :(

They will probably try to overcompensate by putting in like 300 3 boobed ladies instead of one, or something.

Re: Total Recall - Recalled... Remake Announced!

Unfortunately, I think we have the success of Star Trek, 007 and the Batman reimagining for the deluge of shitty remakes. Hollywood was creatively bankrupt years ago, but now box office receipts are showing the suits they can make money off crap reboots.

As I've pointed out already, the movie was profoundly changed from the story it was based on, and even from its own early drafts. If the remake goes back to the source material and takes a different tack, there's no reason to expect it to be a copy of the original film. There are many different ways the concept could be developed, and that's where the fresh ideas come in. Personally I'm hoping it'll take more of a thoughtful approach and avoid the testosterone-drenched excesses and idiotic junk science of the Verhoeven film.

they are going to make a sequel to Tron and The last star fighter, on good authority (having a couple of contacts in disney who give tidbits from time to time) they are talknig and are going to make one.

We should remake "Midnight Cowboy, sat. Night FEver"

get rid of the cheezy 70's movies!

The tagline will be

"Be the last starfighter.......or die!"

During those 15 minutes someone will leave a campaign to go take out the trash or "BRB food in microwave"
