I think another aspect of TOS's success that goes un-credited? Well, for me at least.
When I started watching Star Trek, in the third season mind you, I was into the whacky characters and the FX (pretty good for their time). I didn't get into the story because I was seven years old.
Then when I started seeing them in reruns, and was 11 or so, I started to get into the outfits the women were wearing. They were sexy. I was just getting into 'breasts' about that time..and wow..all of Captain Kirk's babes had jugs!!!
Then, as I got into my teens, and had my own real girls, and thus their jugs, I started getting into the story. Hmmmmm...I would say. This episode isn't just about a hot android babe that wants to bed down with kirk...no, it's about a mad scientist who wants to live forever by transfering his mind into an android...wow..that was so cool I thought...well, the jugs were still cool too. Though as I recall, her breasts were the small perkty type which are cool..
My point being? There are different levels of TOS to discover. First? The actions/Fx. Then the girls. Then the stories (not in that order)
