TOS viewing frequency...

I'm 32, and still can't get enough TOS to be frank. I grew up on it back in the late '70s and the '80s and love it now as much as ever, especially now that we have Remastered edits of the old episodes with new effects to keep our appetites strong.

Interesting how the poll results don't really vary by age group. I'm over 40 and watch TOS every now and then. I've seen every episode so many times I'm embarrassed to tell you. I still enjoy it immensely :)

I even like the really cheesy and bad episodes...thankfully, there aren't that many.

^It's hard for me to like the cheesy and bad episodes. They are cringe-worthy. But they are what they are, and we can't deny them their place in star trek lore.

But you're right, thankfully there aren't that many of them.

After binging in my teens and twenties I tapered off. When Space begin airing the digitally remastered episodes several years ago I watched them all again straight through twice then tapered off again. When the dvd box sets were released I again wtched them all straight through.

Now I catch an episode once in awhile on Space.

I've seen a handful of TOS-R and I'm generally not impressed. I certainly won't be buying the dvd set and I've no real interest to see anymore.

Bad/awful TOS tends to be better than bad/awful TNG, DS9, VOY or ENT, that's for sure.

Regularly...about 2-3 episodes a month.

Some may not think that is regular, but I don't have a lot of viewing time as it is. I probably have the chance to watch a combination of TV/DVD of approximately 10 hours a week.

Anywho...I still enjoy TOS and TAS.

I'm an even 30 years old and still watch at least one un -improved, original, intact episode a week.

The Sydney BBS'ers just completed a TOS viewing run and I am still blown away by how many things you can pick up in each episode despite dozens and dozens of viewings.

The first 45 episodes are really something special. Truly ahead of its time.

She'll never admit it but my 24 year old partner has been pretty well converted now too

That's true for me, too, and I think it's because the "modern" trek series have fewer excuses for being bad. TOS operated under such incredible budgeting, scripting, and technological constraints, and so I can forgive and even enjoy the bad cheesiness with a smile :)

I don't watch TOS-R because...
1) Our cable company doesn't carry it.
2) I don't like watching 50-minute shows chopped down to 40.

I include TAS in my TOS viewing...
1) Most of the TOS cast involved
2) Many TOS writers included
3) A TOS-feel for most episodes

^^ I actually considered splitting the age at 35 or even 40, but opted to go with the conventional 30 year split.

I think you should've gone with 35.

If you were born in 1977 then you graduated from high school in 1995 and grew up with TNG. If you were born in 1972 and graduated from high school in 1990 then it could swing both ways; someone could've grown up with the movies and gone back to appreciate TOS and not like TNG or TNG grew up during their senior year and when they came of age during their graduation ceremony TNG came of age with "The Best of Both Worlds".

Interesting comparison between this and a siimilar poll in the TNG foorum. Generally folks here watch TOS somewhat more regularly while over in TNG there seems more of a drop off in regular viewing. And TNG has more episodes.

Odd.

It's not odd considering that people probably don't have the patience to wade through so many episodes and Spike basically killed TNG with relentless airings and no let up.

At one point it, IIRC, it was three hours every day for a while. I don't care how hardcore you are, watching the same episodes every two months for six years has to be overkill.

As for myself, my heaviest viewing of Star Trek (in general) was during junior high and high school. Once I hit college it tapered off significantly and has stayed that way ever since. I go five years or more without watching the same episode twice.

The last few years, I used to watch an episode or two every couple of months. Right now, I'm watching one episode a day -- I like to watch an episode while I workout, and I just finished rewatching another sci-fi series a few days ago (which (firefly) shall go unnamed (firefly) :) ) and decided to do TOS next. I only have the old video tapes (with two episodes per, not in correct order), but that's okay. I think I'll hold out for the HD before I re-buy.

I watch it when I can (which means when I'm in the states, which means not very often). I would happily watch it every day, if I could, however. (The same goes for all Trek, granted).
