TOS Trio: Friendship Themes

Kinokima

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Hi everyone I am new and I was wondering if anyone can give me suggestions about novels that focus specifically on the relationship of the TOS: Trio (Kirk, Spock, and Bones).

Please note Bones being an important part of the story is essential. So stories just focusing on Spock & Kirk do not interest me.

Is there anything like this out there?

Just a note: This is a list of novels/comics I am considering reading. So if any of the following have the themes I mentioned above and I should push them up let me know.

I also already purchased &/or read: Doctor's Orders, McCoy Crucible, Spock's World, My Enemy My Ally, Romulan Way, Prime Directive, Ex Machina, Covenant of the Crown & the Wounded Sky.

Could go plenty of ways with this one. All 3 needed, or are you really looking for McCoy books, and Kirk/Spock as the add on characters?

How about the Yesterday Saga (Yesterday's Son / Time for Yesterday)? Pretty much a set of adventures with just the 3 of them, mostly 'off the books' for Starfleet.

Uhura's Song maybe?

Dreams of the Raven, especially if you want a little more McCoy.

Memory Prime

Sanctuary

Shadows on the Sun (another heavy McCoy book)

First Frontier

Good start in adition to what you've got. All prominently feature the 'big three', often seperated from the other crew completely (or in part). Couple of those are heavy on McCoy as well...

As you can see from a lot of the books I already chose for myself I definitely do have a strong interest in McCoy centered books.

However in this case I am mainly looking for books that focus specifically on the main 3. McCoy doesn't have to be the center, I just want him to be an important focus. The best would be if the main 3 all have an equal importance.

Thank you for the suggestions. The Yesterday's Saga sounds like it might be what I am looking for.

that was my very first thought. it's really JUST the three of them, and on a more personal mission out of friendship.

Plus, they're just good books.

I've always liked Shadows on the Sun. I'm a big McCoy fan as well, and i remember the book fondly, even though i haven't read it since i was a teenager..

The Better man by Howard Weinstein, Shadows on the Sun by Micheal Jan Friedman , Dreams of the Raven. Crisis on Centarus has a nice friendship theme with Kirk, Spock and McCoy, Weight of worlds by Greg Cox , Devil's Bargin. Spock's world .Best Destiny Diane Carey.

Thanks for citing Weight of Worlds, but, in all fairness, I don't think it's what the OP is looking for. Kirk and Spock are off on their own for most of the book, while McCoy is stuck in Sickbay back on the Enterprise.

Thanks again for the plug, though!

"Doctor's Orders" and "Strangers From The Sky" come to Ming, although with Strangers there are sections that take place prior to McCoy coming aboard the Enterprise and only feature the crew from the second pilot.

You should also check out "The Return" by William Shatner, since it shows McCoy and Spock's grieving for Kirk in the 24th century, following he events of "Generations".

Thank you all very much.

Just to be clear I am not looking for specifically McCoy books. Bones is my favorite and I am happy to find suggestions regarding books that focus specifically on him but I think I have a pretty good handle on what those books are.

However in this case I am looking for books that focus on the trio. If you think about it in the TV series the majority of away missions: Spock, Kirk, McCoy were together. So I am looking for something along those lines.

Although The Final Frontier had a lot of hokey things about it I did love that the main three were together throughout the film, so I am looking for something like that in book form.

I think the landing party in Sanctuary is just the three of them, old-school style.

I loved Sanctuary...but i only listened to the audio version. Can't remember if it was abridged. I wouldn't mind getting the hard copy to compare. Does anyone know if it's different from the audio? I know the abridged versions often cut a lot out..
