TOs season 4 ; what would have happended ?

Some of the stories that eventually became animated episodes would have been employed. Maybe Therin of Andor can confirm or denounce this. I believe "The Practical Joker" was one of those treatments. It was basically a "bottle" (meaning: shipboard) show except for the few space shots. The "balloon" starship may have been written as a "projection", and they could have probably reused the "Romulan/Klingon" ship footage from "The Enterprise Incident". The "holo-deck" scene would probably have been the arborium with the computer sealing the doors and playing with the climate controls (no holographic maze to rattle the crew).

There were supposedly a few other outlines already in existance for the "never to be" fourth season. Again, maybe Therin can clarify.

I will hazard a guess Trek would have made reference to the finally realized moon landing.

Sincerely,

Bill

Shatner's girdle would have won an Emmy for Best Dramatic Performance.

Joe, 36 waist/32 length

Kirk would have died of Chlamidia and Spock would have been the best captain in all of the world!!!! :vulcan:  :p  :vulcan:

Mission: Impossible would have had to cast someone else in the role of Paris...or the show might have collapsed altogether since Bains and Landau had left.

Depends on whether Freddie Freiberger would've still been around or if they could've coaxed Gene Coon back or promoted Bob Justman.

With Freiberger, I suspect the slide would've continued, while Coon or Justman would've turned things around, at least as far as the quality of the scripts would've been concerned. The budget may have been slashed to the point where they were doing "Star Trek: Our Town", but at least it would've been thought provoking.

I tend to agree with the Captain, but believe that it would have been no better than the previous season. I also believe that a very poor fourth season might have crush the chances for STTMP to be made.

And then we'd be having grand discussions about the merits of Roddenberry Trek vs. Freiberger Trek.

I wonder what TGT would have called the fourth season. :D

The entire crew would've gotten drunk on Romulan Ale and nearly destroyed a whole planet, leading to Romulan Ale being illegal on Federation ships.

Maybe if we got a fourth season so much badwill would have been generated from such third season level badness that the series declined in popularity and never became a franchise.

^ You made a joke but you are too close for comfort. There was talk about a I Dream of Jeannie crossover. I believe NBC was pushing for it. Thank God Roddenberry rejected the idea.

I think in the fourth year, Chekov would have finally gotten laid.

if TOs would have gone onto a 4th season what would have happened ?
The existence of a fourth season would have been preceded by better Neilsen ratings for the previous three seasons. Likely 3rd season wouldn't have been shunted to Friday nights at 10pm and Roddenberry would have hung around and prabobly have been more "hands on." Consequently no Fred Frieberger and hence a likely better 3rd season overall. With luck the 4th season would have continued wonderful "adventuring to strange new worlds" stories and possibly including some that eventually became TAS episodes.

But without question a 4th season would have rewritten the eventual Trek franchise. Things most likely would not have unfolded as they have. Whether this would have been better or worse no one can really say.

I do agree that a 4th season could have included a reference to the actual Apollo 11 landing. And in turn the Apollo program could have lent a welcome measure of legitimacy to TOS.

God, that idea is terrifying.

Source?

Crossovers weren't common in the 60s, and especially not amongst shows with different creators...Green Acres and Petticoat Junction and the Beverly Hillbillies would cross-over, sure, because they were all produced by Paul Henning, but really, Trek and Jeannie were different production companies and studios, so I find this idea unlikely.
