And so the question is: when the TOS-R dvd sets are available will you buy?

I'll have to say no. Past precedent has shown that Paramount charges exhorbitant prices for the dvd sets with TAS being the only exception. And while I'm curious enough to watch some of these remastered episodes out of technical curiosity the purist in me could never justify paying an outrageous sum for something I think has been done nearly all wrong.

Please think about your answer. It's easy enough to get emotionally carried away, but the real issue arises when it comes to putting down you're hard earned money.

Unsure. Depends on the end quality, especially for FX heavy eps like the Dommsday Machine and the Ultimate Computer.

That plus the price. I'm not shelling out big $$$ for crap, especially when I've seen every episode of TOS about 400 from the age of 2.

No. I've already spent a pretty penny on every Trek series.

While I've liked what I've seen so far, my $$$ and shelf space would be better served elsewhere.

Unsure. I have them on DVD already and since each episode only has about 2 minutes of new shots my gut says why bother? However, if I ever buy an HD TV I might change my mind.

Yes, this would be an ideal purchase for me for the Next Generation format.

I have not watched a TOS episode in over 5 years (Except for "The Cage") because the majority of the episodes are still very vivid in my memory, and by the time I come around to buying an HD-DVD or a Blu-ray player 4 or 5 years down the road, I definitely would like to have something that I am highly familiar with, yet offers something new and refreshing at the sametime. :borg:

yeah, absolutely. i haven't yet even seen any of the boradcast episodes, so i have a lot of catching up to do. i have been very impressed with the way TOS-R has turned out (i check the trekmovie.com postings weekly for caps and youtube versions of the new footage).

absolutely, definitely. i am looking forward to their becoming available.

I'll get them. If the price is too high at first, I'll wait.

No drama, no speeches. I'll not condemn Paramount for using something they own to make money, which is why the product exists.

Yes, I will buy them on DVD. With the new effects I can finally share them with friends and not have to hear about how the effects look.

Unsure, but I will consider it. The only way I'll buy them on DVD for sure however, is if they go back to fix up the quality of the episodes made during the learning curve...and perhaps rethink/ tidy up some of the original design decisions. The robot inner workings of the Mudd episode were nice looking, but not within the design asthetic of the original series. I'm surprised how quickly people jumped right in with a 'yes' vote. These boards do get read by people involved with the project you know. I'm disappointed more people wouldn't vote for 'unsure' and state their reasons in order to get the point accross that if the episodes are sold on DVD, then they had better be treated properly. I have found the last few episodes to be damn near perfect. :)

Nope. With TAS arriving yesterday, I finally have all Trek on DVD. I didn't even upgrade TOS to the 3 season set. I still have the 2 disk eps.

Good enough for me. Paramount got enough of my money. I scrimped and saved to get most of the dvds and the bastards dropped them half price AFTER I was done.

Insure. It really depends on the price. If I could buy individual episodes for reasonable, that would be another story.

I look at being able to buy all 7 seasons of DS9 right now for $300-350 and realize sometimes it's a good thing to wait.

Well I don't buy TV DVDs generally since I have them taped off of TV, and soon I'll transfer some to DVD from a DVD recorder. BUT I do plan on buying DVDs of TOS-R and any other ST show that is redone. Partly because I am upgrading my technology, and partly because I think it should have been done before.

I'll wait for and then buy the TOS-R dvd's at this point.

I haven't bought the TOS dvd's yet and now knowing that there will be another release sometime in the next 5 years, I'm waitng.

I'll also wait for at least one price break which seems the pattern (got screwed buying M*A*S*H seasons individually, then the whole set came out for 2/3 (or less) the price of the individual seasons:scream:.)

Why?

I just bought the Red Box and the animated series. Why would I pay for the whole thing again?

(They need to fix the plot holes in Doomsday Machine before bothering to fix the FX)

Yes, but the fact that I don't own any TOS on DVD yet makes it an easier decision.

Of course, the reason I don't have TOS on DVD was because I have it on VHS, and I didn't see any reason to upgrade the format for the same content.

Probably not. The remastered episodes are a nice curio, but the effects mostly look like a cheap end CGI rather than a true updating and many effects don't look any better than the original shots.

Between the DVD sets and the full run on Laserdisc (for the original sound mix), I think I have enough TOS to satisfy me. I will only rebuy the series at this point if they restore the mono soundtrack, repairing all of the sound effect and music "enhancements".
