TOS-R Antares Image Available at Startrek.com

I must say, that is possibly the best remastered shot they have done yet. Have they got a new CGI model?

Nice blue-ish tint, and the filmstock looks slightly grainy.

Great stuff.

Side view could easily be mistaken for the Woden (or the "Botany Bay" or the DY-100, or the DY-500), if seen from a distance. I think we have our freighter from "The Ultimate Computer", as well.

^^^
I think we have our "ore freighter" too. Nice call, I'm sure that will be so.

Cool to see something from TAS make it's way onscreen. The CGI looks great too. The hull looks more real and space worn.

I'm impressed, and seriously cool with this. While it would have been a nice nod to use the old fan-intended design (from TMoST), this is a sweet homage to TAS, and looks very nice.

Anyway, the registry LOOKS like NCC-G21 or 621. But it's very hard to tell from this angle. Maybe we'll see her better in the SFX reel.

Huh? You mean all new Star Trek productions will start acknowledging any and every plot thread and development of the licensed Star Trek tie-ins?

No. Hence there is still a canonical body of work: live action Star Trek seen onscreen.

There's no 'Star Trek Canon' because a) there is no regular series currently being produced, and b) the new movie is not going to be beholden to anything, as the producers have already stated.

Canon is dead.

Canon is dead.

Actually the producers have stated that they are planning to tell a story that honors the canon.

But that's different than being slavish to it.. and certainly isn't as 'anal' in the interpretation as most fans around these parts have been. :P

But that's not what you said. You said that they weren't beholden to it and that canon is dead.

They said they will respect canon, so therefore canon still exists. As to what degree they will follow canon... I am sure there will be cheers and tears. Some people will complain that their childhoods have been raped regardless. I find that to be apocryphal.

They may HONOR canon, but they're not beholden to it. Canon, as a practical matter, is dead.

Thanks for reminding me just WHY the Star Trek fandom has such a terrible rep, Number6. Here I was beginning to think it wasn't deserved.
