TOS Legacies Trilogy

The Wormhole

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
This isn't much, but I noticed recently that Simon and Schuster has titles up for the novels in the Legacies series, a trilogy of TOS novels coming out next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

They are:

Captain to Captain by Greg Cox
Best Defense by David Mack
Purgatory's Key by Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore

Although we already knew the authors involved, this is the first I'd heard about the individual titles in this series. Still no blurbs or plot details.

Those links are to S&S`s Canadian site. If you switch out the .ca to .com in the link you will get the US site and there the price is still $7.99.

My favorite title there is Best Defense. Which I assume is referring to "... is a good offense". Which sounds like a David Mack book if I've ever heard one.

Best Defense hurts my eyes as it should be Best Defence. :D

Then you might be surprised that the book's planned epigraph puts a very different spin on the title —

Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed.
—UNESCO Constitution, 1946

And considering the epigraph, you're more right than you realized. If I had thought the British spelling would have passed muster with the editorial and sales departments, I might have asked for it. But I suspect it would be a non-starter.

Huh. I stand corrected.

Either way, I am of course excited to get one from you next year while eagerly awaiting the fantasy trilogy.

I saw on Facebook that Greg's book will feature Number One. I'm curious if she'll be a new version, or based on Vulcan's Glory, New Frontier or any of the other prior incarnations of the character?

Kind of a composite, borrowing also from the way I portrayed her in Child of Two Worlds . . ..

Purely by coincidence, I ended up writing Number One twice recently.

She's not in Miasma,though. :)

Read any of the Byrne comics about her, Greg?

Don't forget the Marvel Early Voyages version, where she was named Robbins (and her first name was probably Eureka).

I'm assuming that David Mack is finally writing the Star Trek/Dudley Moore/Eddie Murphy crossover that we've all been clamoring for...

^ Get out.

 ...Ain't I a stinker?

I read those. Missed the Byrne ones somehow.

Greg, if you're interested, they're collected in a trade. The stories follow Number One's career through the years (and even offer an explanation for why a Lieutenant is serving as a first officer!):

Number One also pops up in Byrne's Romulan stories:

I recommend them both.
