TOS Finale Episode

I like the idea of the main crew splitting up and getting promotions. They deserved it, instead they spent the next 30 years following Captain Ego.

But they trusted old Ego.. I mean Kirk! His was the only ship that went out into deep space and returned with 85% of it's crew I think they have said! So they knew that with him in command their chances of going home had gone up by 50%!

...except for some of those poor crew members who wore red shirts.

I like the final episode wrapping up the series, giving us hints of what the characters would go on to next. Careers normally progress, you do one thing for a few years, then you get promoted or move on and do something else. Chasing around the galaxy is a young person's job; keeping at it much past 40 and the Gorn might get the better of you next time. It's time for the junior officers to get more senior posts, and that can't happen if it's just the same ship with the same people.

they could do an American Graffiti ending
James T. Kirk was promoted to Admiral and is currently Commander In Chief of Starfleet
Spock is currently the Federation Ambassador to the Romulan Empire
Dr Leonard McCoy retired and spends his time with his grandchildren.
Montgomery Scott is a successful author and lecturer in the field of Warp Engineering
Hiraku Sulu is the Captain of the USS Excelsior
Nyota Uhura left Starfleet and currently performs a lounge act on Wrigley's Pleasure Planet
Pavel Chekov is the Visiting Professor of Russian Studies at Cochrane Junior College on Alpha Centauri

There are numerous television shows that go through their production lifespan and the producers decide to end the series with a finale. TOS didn't really have that opportunity to wrap up their 5 year mission. Turnabout Intruder just kind of ended TOS with a whimper, not a bang. What would have been some good script ideas for TOS finale episode?

I'm not certain one could create a believable series finale that did not come off as abrupt since no TOS (orTAS) story ever hinted that the 1701 was nearing the end of the 5-year mission. Unlike other 60s series such as The Fugitive, Route 66 and The Andy Griffith Show--all with series-ending plots seeded/developed over several episodes--TOS just moved to new adventures as if there was no end in sight. Difficult to create a natural conclusion for that.

So Riker and Troi are on the holodeck, and....

How dare you. It is clear you need a time out...or reprogramming to wipe away the memory of that scene!

LOL the irony is in STTMP if it wasn't for Decker, Spock and Iliya the ship would have been blown to pieces with Kirk in charge. He added nothing to that mission except acting like a spoilt child 'They gave her back to me' pathetic. Reboot Captain Pike had more class.

We think we want finales, but they're weak and contrived. DS9's in particular (the best one) had characters going their separate ways, taking dull jobs they would never have actually wanted, for no reason other than the fact that the series was ending... and of course, the characters aren't supposed to know they're on a fictional TV series that's ending.

Unless it feels natural, like a mission is ending and they're to be split up for some plausible in-universe reason (like if, say, the ship was being retired/re-purposed for something they would not be able to be a part of). Then they'd go their separate ways. Or just move in unison to the next ship/thing...

Clint Howard (and Balok) come back after developing an actual corbomite bomb and destroys the Enterprise and crew for leaving that annoying irritant, Lt. Bailey, with him. During the final scene with the Enterprise exploding, cut to Howard laughing like he did in his first appearance with a fade to the credits.

The sound mixers should have edited in Vincent Price's laugh from Michael Jackson's Thriller video. Ah-Ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

I'm feeling no love or admiration for James T. here somehow..

STARFLEET MEMO
To: Captain James T. Kirk

Captain Kirk...you must be more careful in your use of red shirts. We are having difficulty in filling the numerous crew member positions that have been lost during your tenure as captain of the Enterprise.

Thank you.

MEMO
To: Captain James T. Kirk (of the Kelvin reality)
From: Starfleet Command Personnel Resources

Captain Kirk.

WE have received mass resignations from your crew. There is a rumor that you are cursed with bad luck or that Star fleet promoted you way above your abilities. After three major incidents which damaged the ship and lost a significant number of the crew (Earth dates 2258, 2260,2263) it is decided that the rest of your five year mission will be reduced to five weeks. This will restrict your journey to the planet Risa and back.
Fortunately we managed to persuade Lt Cmdr Spock and Lt Uhura not to take the Kolinahr programme at the P'Jem monastery. Lt Cmdr McCoy has recovered from rehab but has requested a transfer to the Federation embassy on Orion. Lt Cmdr Scott refuses to leave engineering and has taken Lt Keenser hostage. A negotiater is in place to deal with the situation.

Thank you

Lt Gaila (Senior Manager of Personnel resources)

(P.S It would be culturally insensitive to have a Human resources at Starfleet)

But Akaar in Friday's Child told Kirk that his security man must have been honoured to have died for him and then stood up and said I don't understand!
