Game TOS Episode Pitch Game

"Down for the Count":

Boy, this grew in the telling. Now it's more of a treatment than a pitch. Here goes:

Enterprise is swept away by a disembodied Voice to an uncharted star system where there are three other alien ships. The Voice tells them that the contest has begun and there can be but one victor! Soon, two of the aliens are firing at each other and the third one is moving in on the Enterprise. Kirk sends a signal that he doesn't intend to fight for anyone's amusement, but his hails go unanswered and he has to order return fire. In the exchange of fire, the navigation console explores, sending Chekov across the bridge and facedown on the steps! One of the first two ships is destroyed, but Spock announces that sensors and scanners detect no debris from it. Sulu reports that the Enterprise's location has changed--the ship being back at its initial position when it arrived in this system, as have the two other survivors. Kirk calls McCoy for a casualty report and he says he was just about to call the bridge, all the injured crewman are nowhere to be found. We see where Chekov laid, and he's disappeared.

Another Voice sounds in the bridge telling Kirk that his hesitation almost cost him his shot at victory. Kirk argues that he wants nothing to do with a contest and demands to know what happened to his crewmen, but the Voice just tells him that the next round will not be as easy. Kirk orders that the Enterprise evade all attacks and make every effort to escape the area. One of the other ships seems to have the same idea, but as the fleeing ship reaches a certain perimeter, it is reflected back towards the opponents. The third ship gives chase to the fleeing alien and opens fire, destroying it, but once again, leaving no debris.

The ships are again placed back to the starting positions and the Voice again chides Kirk for not fighting. It tells us that they expected more from such a skilled commander and powerful starship and he will lose the grand prize if he doesn't fight. The next round begins and Spock's scans of the enemy reveal that they are heavily damaged and it would be well within the abilities of the Enterprise to finish it off. But Kirk refuses. He announces loudly to the Voice that he won't destroy for their entertainment -- that humanity only fights as a last resort for a desperate cause. He hails the enemy and asks them to stand down, claiming that he won't fight them over nothing. He orders Sulu to lower the shields and power off the phasers. For a tense moment, the crew wonders If the enemy will agree with Kirk's plea, but then Sulu yells, "They're firing!" and the bridge is rocked in explosions throwing everyone around and fading to white. The light fades and everyone is back at their stations, even Chekov, who seems confused. The Voice informs them that in spite of their disappointing performance, they did achieve second place status and are now free to go, restored to their original conditions. The ship is even back on it's original course and speed. Chekov asks what happened and Kirk says, "A boxing match, Mister Chekov. But I'm not sure if we won or lost."

Oh, it's Hunger Games. So what would have been the Grand Prize?

If I understood the rules correctly, and this is the last episode title postulated by the previous person:

"Down for the Count"

In what would have been season 4, had the show continued and given the budget it deserved, and potentially as a four-parter to constrain costs as well:

Starfleet Brass had read Kirk's logs about the Triskeleon incident and orders Enterprise to follow up a possible lead thanks to numerous captains and other Starfleet staff disappearing. Enterprise arrives, the trio teleport down, and it's one of two things (but with the same basic cause):

The Providers lied and want revenge (and even grew mustaches to twirl and comb, moohahaha) . With assistance from the more brainy of the Thralls, they found a way to improve their powers and accelerate others' to their level of bread-doughy existence. Shahna was elevated into a provider and is now glowing pastel purple next to the ancient three (glowing their pastel equivalents of yellow, orange, and teal). This sadly means Angelique Pettyjohn could only return as a voice, but the loss of body would add to the revenge aspect. She might not be able to strangle Kirk's neck or any other part of choice, but she has some brainadope now.

Shahna was so eager to go into space and wanted Kirk to take her along, that she actually did anything to get Kirk back. How, you say? She was taught by the Providers with Galt gliding glibly by her and set the entire trap in motion as the highest roller of the piece, and started kidnapping Starfleet personnel, who was aware of Alexander's asylum and wondered why she wasn't accorded the same treatment when she had asked. It's not small universe syndrome and definitely was an open thread.

The cause, did I say? The Providers (w/ or w/out Shahna depending on where this could go in the timeframe allotted) kidnapped someone and returned them back to Starfleet to set the whole array of events in motion. They're one of the few entities that have the ability to teleport from such idiotic distances, and it's the late-sixties with the same revamped incidental music, so why not.

Oh yes, because of their combined ego, they rename the planet from Triskeleon to Quadtrefoil. And it's a four-parter. Nyuk nyuk.

Possible alternate titles:
"Trap of the Quatrefoil"
"Highroller of the Quatrefoil"
"Cardsharps of the Quatrefoil"

Up next: "AS YOU LIKE IT"

My apologies; these threads do get easy to miss the latest entry and I've seen from other games, others accidentally miss the latest post and can trip up as well.

No worries. @Qonundrum, if you'd like, you could do "Nightmare" too and we could continue on with the title suggestion you posted above.

Thanks much! :D I'll try to have something scribbled up for Nightmare by day's end...

Also, is there a deadline (e.g. 2 or 3 days) where, if nobody else responds, the last poster could then put in another entry?

I'll keep a summary in one paragraph, but I'm hoping a greater synopsis within a spoiler tag might be okay?

"Nightmare"

The Kelvins, who were welcomed as friends by Kirk and crew, but not as invaders, were conniving a ruse to take over Starfleet/UFP and infiltrate our galaxy far faster. And now they are out for revenge. But is it real, or is it a product of Kirk's mind?

Next episode: "The King's Demons"

"The King's Demons": The Enterprise crew attends the coronation of Ornelia's heir to the throne following the death of the former king, said to have descended into madness prior to his death, just as many in his line had before. While presiding over a third-party autopsy of the dead king, the king's invisible (alien) tormentors latch onto McCoy, believing him to be the heir. Can the doctor convince the crew that he is not crazy, and exorcise the demons for good?

Next episode: "Creature of Habit" https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/creature-of-habit

"Creature of Habit" A visiting ambassador seems to only say the same limited styles of speech. Soon, his every action seems repetitive. Eventually he keeps repeating the same lines and doing the same actions regardless of the responses of everyone around him. We learn that he has been taken over by an alien consciousness that is trying to learn about human behavior by practicing what it has already observed.

Next episode: "Bill of Goods"

--Alex

"Bill of Goods": The Enterprise is assigned to pick up a shipment of weather modification technology bound for the Nubaris colony, which is suffering from an unexpected planetwide storm. They discover two things; one, that the new technology may not be all it's cracked up to be, and that they are not the only ones who have their eyes on it. Can they save the colony and fend off the enemy? (Could be a Klingon episode)
