TOS Engineering (MotS Mod)

Donny

Not quite done yet, but thought I'd go ahead and let you all see the work on the engineering section of my Star Trek mod for the old PC game Mysteries of the Sith. Excuse me starting a new thread, but I felt this one needed its own. For those of you who may have missed the first thread, here it is: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=48585

Still got work to do on the wall opposite the main control panels, and the various other rooms such as the Emergency Manual Monitor room that overlooks engineering.

For the entire project, I'm going with the 1st season lighting scheme (darker, more dramatically lit) with the set upgrades of the 2nd and 3rd seasons (except for when they painted the walls of the transporter room lavender....yuck)

Main Overview:

More to come as the work gets done!

Looks very good Donny, although I always wondered what purpose that "gate" in the second picture, by the console and chair, served. The only thing I can remember it being used for was to give Scotty something to hold on to when the ship was hit by turbulance or weapons fire.

Baxart: Not sure if that will work. The game format I use is very old and not very compatible with modern 3D programs such as poser. Plus the architecture of the game cannot be exported at all. For example, the standalone console in the second pic I could import into Milkshape (without textures, however) but the surrounding walls could not be.

Not sure if that answers your question, as I'm not very knowledgeable about such things.

Those images are awesome. I think you caught not just the geometry, but the ambience of the engine room. Nice job!

Any chance you'll be doing the Reactor Room (where Watkins was killed) or the Emergency Manual Monitor Room (the enclosed high bay on the other side of the engine room)?

I've been watching the other thread to see your progess. As I am not familiar with the game engine this is modded with it the full game title called 'Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith '? How connected will the mod be - can you get into the turbolife and travel to another part of the ship?

TowerPower: The reason I started the mod was so that I would be able to have my very own recreation of many of the areas of The Original Series. I wanted to be able to walk the decks in full 3D sight and sound. The mod will at the very least be an interactive tour of the Enterprise. You will be able to get into turbolifts and explore 6-8 decks of the ship. Replicators, or "food slots" will be usable. You can activate "red alert" on the bridge. Much like the Virtual Voyager tour of Star Trek: Elite Force Expansion pack.

However, I'd like to make a full blown game around it. Like beaming down on away missions in a story-driven single player campaign and such. This is unlikely, as the amount of detail going into it is taking up so much time.

Even if it doesn't make it to full-blown game stage, there are still some areas I may create, perhaps as Easter Eggs, such as a TOS-Style Starfleet Command (or other land-based Starbase) and/or an explorable Klingon D7.

The Dilithium Crystal Control Room, seen only in the episode "The Alternative Factor."

Great dilithium control room! Although I think it should be a little wider, (or maybe the grill needs to be moved a little to the right?) and there should be a table and chair in the foreground at the bottom of the picture, otherwise it's great. keep up the good work!

Yes, there are a few minor differences than in the series. The width of the room is much the same (no blueprints were available on this area, sadly), so I had to judge it all by looking at screenshots.

Because the purpose of the grille is not clear in the episode other than for decoration, I decided to give it some usefulness. It actually forms a cage that extends the rest of the length of the room. I figure I'd have the ships supply of dilithium in this cage. (Makes sense to store the ships dilithium supply in this room. Which by the way, I've placed this room right down the hallway from main engineering). To make room for cargo I had to extend the grille a little more wider than it is in the episode. This, sadly, left little room for a table and chair like in the episode.

There is always purpose for the grill - to give something for Scotty to hold on to for dear life when the ship tilts from a hit and the inertial dampeners haven't kicked in yet! :D

Excellent work, by the way.

Good theory about the purpose of the grill, I always assumed it surrounded a gangway or ladderwell, which might explain why we saw Lazerus skulking behind there just before he jumps the technician? But I like your idea too.

I'm getting really excited about this project. I don't have the time or skills at this point to do something of this magnitude. Has anyone seen the mod for the Voyager-Elite Forces game? Not sure if that mod was discussed anywhere here or not.

I'm actually a fan of Spacestation K7's "Argas Effect" MOD for Elite Force (spacestationk7.eliteforce.com) and am a semi-active member of their forums. They do some great work and have been very supportive of what I'm doing.

My problem is that I'm using an archaic gaming engine. I wish that Mysteries of the Sith would become public domain so that those that don't have the game could easily download it once I release it. There may be ways around that though.

Thanks for everyone's feedback and support!

The Emergency Manual Monitor Room overlooking Main Engineering...
project-50-QJ210Qfljy.jpg

I had to make this room a little higher than in the show due to the fact that there has to be enough room for a typical corridor section underneath. By studying screenshots of the show it is clear that this set isn't much more than six feet off the ground.

Can't wait to finish off Engineering. Been working on it too long now. Still gotta do the damned reactor room that Watkins was killed in. I also gotta come up with something to put beyond the door in the "green windowed alcove," possibly an Engineering Computer room like Franz Joseph's plans indicate. I'm also considering adding a "Chief Engineer's Office" down an adjoining hallway.

After I finish off all that it's off to the crew's quarters, shuttlebay, and cargo bays. Looks like I'll be having fun for a few more months....
