TOS DVD/Blu-ray releases

Hey. I'm new to this forum.

Actually, to be accurate, I'm new to Star Trek in general. I started watching TOS about a month ago cuz I wanted to finally try to seriously get into Star Trek (about 16 episodes in so far on Netflix), and I was thinking about getting the show on DVD/Blu-ray so I could get my hands on the special features and other goodies, and I was wondering if you guys could tell me which release I should get.

I know for TOS there's like three different releases on DVD and one on Blu-ray, though finding out what special features each release has and what distinguishes them from each other isn't easy (especially since Amazon combines the user reviews for all releases for a given format). If you guys could help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated.

The extras are basically the same, with a few additional ones on the Blu-Rays.

Unquestionably, If you have the money for either, and have a Blu-Ray player and HDTV, get the Blu-Rays. The picture and sound quality is soooo much better than the DVDs...

Of course, you could buy my DVDs from me if you really don't care for picture/sound quality... only $100 per season!

The Blu-rays are much better quality and more value for money. They feature both versions of each episode, opposed to the DVDs that only feature one.

I fully agree with Tosk. The Blu-rays are the best way to go. Both SD and HD versions with all the extras into one set. Keep an eye out for sales on Amazon that offer all three seasons in a bundle; they are frequent and it can save you a bunch of money.

Amazon has the complete series on Blu-ray for $68.
