Blurb:
An all-new Star Trek novel from New York Times bestselling author Greg Cox, taking place in the blockbuster Original Series era!

The year is 2255, not long after the events of the Original Series episode “The Cage.” A young Spock is science officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike, when an outbreak of deadly Rigelian fever threatens the crew. Reviewing the Starfleet medical database, Dr. Phillip Boyce comes up with a highly experimental and untested new treatment that might save the crew. Just one problem: it requires a rare mineral substance, ryetalyn, which is not easily obtained…except on a remote alien colony near the Klingon border. But borders are somewhat blurry in this part of galaxy. Pike will need to tread carefully in order to avoid provoking an armed conflict with the Klingons—or starting an all-out war.

Looking forward to this one. Been awhile since we had a good Pike-era story. Will be stopping by my local bookstore after work on Tuesday to grab it.

I preordered this book I'm definitely looking forward to reading a novel about Spock and Christopher Pike.:techman:

Only a third of the way through this but I'm already voting outstanding. This is probably tied with The Autobiography of James T. Kirk as my favorite book this year. The writing is phenomenal. I have liked Greg's other books but this one takes the cake

The twist of the title, not just referring to Spock but also Metara/Little Elzy really blew me away. I found it intriguing seeing the distinction between the human/Vulcan side of Spock, coming into contact with a Cyprian/Klingon. The scenes between the two of them have been the highlights of the book for me so far.

About 50 pages in. But I've had my first real guffaw. "The tragic Delambre incident", indeed!

Just got my copy today from my local Chapters! Glad to see they are getting the books in on time again :techman:

Unquestionably so, given that it was made in reference to the Transporter.

By itself, that gag was worth the Price of the book.

As an aside, I recently rewatched the "Outer Limits" episode"The Sixth Finger" and thought to myself, "Good thing there was no fly in that chamber."

Well Mr. Greg Cox, Mr. Fancy Dancy Writer Man, if your mission was to make me cry... twice... (so far)... then mission freakin' accomplished. I hope you're proud of yourself. :vulcan:
