TOS BluRay set....

I am referring to the "More Tribbles, More Troubles" episodes which was a bonus feature on the season 2 blu-ray set and wondering if the BD of the animated series coming soon in the huge box ser containing the original series, the first 6 movies and the animated series will have that new sound mix or the original.

Regarding the animated series episode on the blu-ray disc, nah, they added sound effects. The phaser sounds and hits, plus the exterior engine rumble which were never there. Ever (this I can say with absolute certainty). The DVDs of the animated seris sound just fine. No different from any of the home video releases (I have the VHS and laserdiscs) or the prints I had recorded in the late 80's.

The VHS and Laserdiscs would've had just a mono soundtrack (most likely 2-channel Mono), which the DVD's and the Blu-Ray preserved.

But 5.1 is very different from 1- or even 2-channel mono. Quite frankly I was never impressed with the mapping that the audio engineers at Paramount/CBS created the 5.1 mixes for the DVD's of Enterprise & The Animated Series when compared to even the mixes created for the 1999-2001 DVD's of the TOS soundtracks; they're about as bad as 5.1 mixes found on the Rankin/Bass Original Christmas Classics Blu-Ray. But I've listened to both audio tracks, and the Blu-Ray has the same track as the DVD, just the compression is different and offers a better sonic range on a number of things. On the Blu-Ray the only sound changes that I found were on the TOS episodes, so that any new CGI shots that required new sound effects that had the effects that matched the shots. But unlike the TOS &TNG Blu-Ray's, I don't think CBS has done any remixing (maybe they will in the fall), and the 5.1 mixes sound like they were matrixed from the original mono audio, while the TOS/TNG Blu-Ray mixes were mixed from the multi-track audio tapes (or in the case of TOS, whatever multi-tracks still exist).
