TOS Blue-ray Season 1?

Ok so I was very excited to watch Season ! on blue-ray (believe it or not I have never owned TOS on DVD) and I popped it in and there is major volume issues. I have to put my TV on the maximum setting just to hear it, and it still isn't really load enough. Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes, I have to turn my TV way up during quiet scenes, but as soon as something happens, like a photon torpedo firing or someone screams, I have to turn it down quick before the sonic blast shatters my windows.

Kind of annoying, but Star Trek is in HD. I can take the good with the bad.

If you're using the lossless audio stream, it probably has a greater dynamic range than the old Dolby Digital format.

There are only 2 options 7.1 and mono.

I have just bought season 2 on blu ray and I find it is quite low too even with my surround sound. I have to turn it up quite high.

So what is the Issue??? I have every season of TNG, VOY, ENT, and DSP on DVD and the audio is fine. It can't be the blu-ray because I bought season 1 of Battle Star Galactica and it is fine.

The 7.1 track is lossless; the mono is DD. Which one is the BD player sending to the TV? If it's the former, that's what my post was addressing. My BD player defaults to the lossless audio track, but I haven't noticed any problem w/ lower overall volume, or huge dynamic changes, when watching BDs vs. DVDs.

If you are listening to the episode on regular TV speakers---just turn on the mono soundtrack.

There's no point in listening to a soundtrack created for 8 speakers when listening to it on 2.

The 7.1 soundtrack is designed for a set up where you have the dialogue scenes at normal easy to hear levels----then an unexpected loud sound, like a photon hit, is heard and it is meant to be VERY loud. Like in real life if you were talking normal and a bomb went off outside. It would be louder than your conversation--obviously.

Some TVs and A/V setups have an equalizer where the loudest sounds don't get too far above the 'normal' sound, that way you don't wake your neighbors or bother other folks in the house---like a sleeping spouse.

I love the 7.1 sound through 8 speakers---I hope you can resolve your problem.

You could also all try turning on the DRC on your players and amps, sometimes called "Night Mode" or similar.

Don't forget, people...

TOS was MADE with a mono soundtrack, so by using that setting, you're not really missing anything.

I have all three seasons on blu ray,and I admit watching it I have to turn the voulme up a little.I have a suroundsound system and I have to adjust the voulme between the tv the surroundsound all the time when I watch them. But the picture quality is still great even though the sound on the disc is low.
