TOS Animation Special

Hi guys, I just saw this on Kickstarter. It looks interesting. Google "Star Trek Animation Special" and note that I am not involved with this production.

Best,
Duane

Looks interesting, but the campaign breaks one of my cardinal rules for Kickstarter: if I'm going to support something like this, I want a DVD at around the $25 or $30 level, or at least an HD digital download. You have to pledge $100 to get a DVD with this one. Too rich for my blood.

It's the Johnny Quest angle that I like. Lack of script details is keeping me from contributing.

There was a clip of a scene in the updates section, which I'll admit didn't light my fire. That said, I think it's a neat idea, and the animation is well-done (at least to my eye).

Just one pedantic point: the animation is the movement, not the rendering. So to say something which barely moves is well animated is like saying the rests in a song are on key. ;)

Ever pedantic, Maurice? ;)

Well you know, I was *trying* to say something positive on the back of saying something critical. Still looks fine to me. I realise you have a different eye for such things. :)

McCoy sounds decrepit.

And are they going for an original "Jonny Quest" look, or one of the later series?
Because the shading doesn't strike me as "Jonny Quest"-esque.

I vaguely recall seeing a minute or so of an Archer episode. Yes, it's more like that.

Why does this project even NEED a Kickstarter? The promo video and another short clip total about 2 minutes of screen time and I count less than 10 character drawings total...

And they have the balls to call this animated when the only movement there is to see is VERY badly pivoted head levels and hand levels, and amateurishly-positioned mouth levels for the lipsync.

If the creators of this project read this at all, here...the following is a much, MUCH better example of limited animation done right, that is dynamic and entertaining:

Their bogus claim of being done Jonny Quick style is only accurate as far as having copied Race Bannon's likeness for Captain Kirk.
Jonny Quest was not full animation throughout because back then and even now, television shows had neither the time nor the finances to create a Disney feature for the tube. Yes, some of it was limited such as held bodies with only lipsync, but they never did that for a full minute. They actually alternated with fuller drawings.

I can't even compare this to Filmation's Star Trek series which even for all their legendary frugality, they still had a LOT more drawings per second than this project.

Heck, even the 60s Marvel Superheroes show moves more than these clips, and MS has long been kidded as an INanimated show.

As far as I know, the people who produced the few faux-Filmation Farragut episodes didn't need a kickstarter and they were outstanding, I really don't see why this project should be asking for funds...

I wouldn't worry over it. They gave their Kickstarter 60 days, and with 24 to go, they haven't reached 20 percent of goal.
