TOS Aliens = The Best??!

The series broke much new ground in creating truly alien life forms beyond the most famous advesaries, such as the Deneva Neural parasites, the Horta, Yarnek ("The Savage Curtain") the Melkotian ("Spectre of the Gun") and the Tholians. That was serious world building, presenting a universe that was more than the usual human-like aliens seen everywhere in sci-fi productions.

I was going to say, what, no love for the Horta?

There certainly are a lot of aliens that simply look human, but so many aliens look and act so much better than the TNG bumpy-headed aliens of the week.

The Outer Limits beat them to that and in volume. In fact some of the aliens seen on Star Trek were reused/reworks of Outer Limits aliens (notably two of the zoo specimens in "The Cage", the Horta, and the spoor plants from "This Side of Paradise").

Which episode of TOL was the Horta on? I recall seeing the others, but I had understood that the Horta was built for Trek even before there was a need, and that the episode was written as inspired by the costume. But maybe I have that wrong. I have every TOL episode on DVD, so if it's in there I know I've seen it, but I don't recall it at all. I'd love to see that.

I had the impression the OP was talking about best aliens of the ST franchise. Now that you mention TOL, the "gorilla" alien from "The Cage" (seen in TOL's "Fun and Games") was not a high point for either series, and was not particularly alien in appearance. For TOS, their non "man" aliens were advanced, and I would suggest were head and shoulders above that created for TOL in successfully presenting something visually appealing and believably serving the story.

Yeah, they were cuddly and cute.

But they should have actually showed a selat, not only talk about them.

The Mikie from The Outer Limits is nothing like The Horta in truth! The Mikie looked like a burnt man melted suit while The Horta was like a spicy pizza in actual design!

The Tellarites. Personality and looks. They had it all!!!!!

I resemble that remark. My board name is derived from them :D

But Mugatus are GREAT

Yes, TOS absolutely had the best aliens. They were the most creative with the most limited resources. TNG did some great aliens too, but all those bumpy foreheads got old pretty quickly.
