I think they have done this for the same reasons some films go straight to the bargain bin.
It's called "damage control". Dump it on the Yanks at the same time before word gets out from England just what depths they've sunk to now!
Or it could be, y'know just guessing here, that BBC Co-producer the show, and it's one of their most popular, so they want to show it asap so as not to lose ratings to the all might bittorrent.
