Torchwood: Miracle Day Blu-Ray

Just a heads up for anyone in the UK, Play.com are selling Miracle Day for £4.99 at the minute.

Sorry, looks by the time I'd posted it the offer had already ended.

If I could pay to retconn ever seeing a single second of it, I would. Just a travesty how bad it was, considering how good Children of Earth was.

I think one of the biggest issues with Miracle Day is that it was just to long at a 10 parter. I think it could have been condensed to a 5 parter and provided a much tighter storyline.

The idea was sound but it just dragged on, and on, and on, and on, and on... 5 episodes would have been plenty. Thankfully I can't remember most of the characters names but they could have got rid of the entire storyline involving the murderer guy, and probably gotten rid of Claire from 6 feet under, and the main story wouldn't have lost anything.

Oh and I would have preferred some kind of swirling spatio temporal vortex instead of the giant gash we actually got.

It was an interesting notion, but much like Flash Forward it’s difficulty to do justice to a truly global phenomena like that. Too many neat ideas jettisoned, i.e. The walking dead people (although that was probably nabbed from FF) Oswald Danes had the potential to be interesting, but it’s like they didn’t know what to do with him, same with Jilly, and it’s telling that probably the best episode was the flashback one that, probably, didn’t deserve an entire episode for how much (little) it advanced the story.

Also it was too similar to CoE but didn’t pack anywhere near the same impact. The government(s) sending kids off to be used as drugs by aliens was shocking, the government(s) in Miracle Day choosing to incinerate the people who should have been dead anyway and who seemed to be mainly comatose/brain dead was not. Clearly there were major moral issues around it, but given the danger to public health etc. what the fuck else were the governments to do?

As for the arse/fanny at the centre of the world. I admire that they tried to do something different, let’s face it a vortex would have been a bit meh. Unfortunately it really didn’t come off, I still can’t decide if it was a good idea badly realised or a bad idea badly realised!!

I've been watching the episodes as I've had time.. I'm finding a bit too racy to allow my 12 year old son to watch, which did not make him happy, as he's seen all the previous seasons.

I'm enjoying it so far, but there are too many characters to keep track of.

Yea, definitely a good idea to view it yourself first, so you can make an informed decision before allowing a child to watch it.

I really enjoyed Miracle Day, as I have each season of Torchwood. I like the way the style has evolved but kept the quality. Thankfully Moffat's never got his hands on it.
