That being said, Miracle Day is very obviously a wildly different beast than Children of Earth. More than a few times I've found myself saying "This isn't Torchwood, it's another show and Jack, Gwen and Rhys are appearing on it."
Here's some interesting commentary from Jane Espenson about the episode.
My impression is that once they threatened Newman, the CIA stopped looking for them, probably because they were superseded-- the agent from episode 4 seemed to be an independent operative. Of course, why the Triangle didn't someone else is a good question. So Rex Matheson decided to admit himself into an overflow camp... that's not exactly a terrible idea except for the fact that he used his real name. It has already been established that there's people in the CIA hunting the Torchwood team. How they're not able to find/eliminate/put up some resistance at the camp is laughable.
^ This is exactly the same feeling that I have with Miracle Day. Well said.
Also Phicor and the military can't spare just a dozen guards for the Death Chambers?

Thank you. Thematically, I think it touches on stuff that Torchwood has addressed previously. The whole thing with the glove and Owen is a good example. However, instead of demons from the underworld, it takes a look at the consequences if death weren't a reality.

Any reason they'd want to? Torchwood treated the module like it was some benefit for Phicor, but, in the end, it just seems to be a way to get rid of the bodies.
Rex used his real name as well because he probably knew the overflow camps were not organized yet and would not be able to determine right away who he was. Plus that they're probably where he would have been sent anyways when the CIA was after him.
The ending was shocking. No way around that. As for everyone who wanted Rex to die, that's just to the point. They didn't want us happy with the death, it's supposed to shock and sadden. I just hope that when you're cloud vapor, you can't feel pain. There's no other way around it. Hopefully there's something that can be done for Gwen's dad before he meets the same fate.
Are you suggesting they are PURPOSEFULLY writing Rex as a douche? I don't think that's the case. I think we're supposed to be on Rex's side, feeling Rex's pain, etc, etc.
I'm shocked and saddened because now I'm stuck with a character I don't like, while losing a character I did.
I AM glad they had the guts to kill off a main character, that's good, but, main... it's like killing off Radar so now we're stuck with Klinger.

They pretty much wrote Owen that way, I don't think anybody cried when he died the first time but the second time he died at the same time that Toshi died so there are some parallels.

By the time they killed Owen off for good, he was a much more interesting character than he was in the first series.
Edited to add. To be more specific, he was a more engaging and compelling character. Not necessarily likable, hang out, but, I was actually interested and invested in him.
Owen is running through the UK series "The Hour" as the Baddie and Ianto got a speaking part in Warehouse 13 the other night.
Where is Tosh hiding?
