Torchwood is to perverted...

Ninjacore

Commander
Tried watching some episodes again and ick, before I commence this is not me railing against gay hook ups...but the show is so fake, I have worked with guys and girls and from what I have seen only "some" of the people I worked with were gay or bi, not 99.9% of them like on the show, the gay hook ups just seem so forced like the show is saying their is no such thing as straight people, there are only gay people, and the really gay or bi ones are always portrayed as whores and man sluts, never one who maintains a longterm partner without cheating, a bisexual person can choose to settle down with someone from either sex, and be happy with that one person, they are not all wired to be sex crazed maniacs, I find their attempt at Politically Correct sex lives to actually be insulting of the non straight people...I consider myself bisexual and I don't appreciate all the characters being portrayed like that...

So you are bothered by the homosexuality portrayed on the show, but not the gratuitous gore?

The portrayal of sexuality bothers you because it seems fake... but the gore is okay because it seems fake?

Makes perfect sense.

Because the sexuality ties directly with character development, bad gore just means a cheap budget, and any Doctor who fan has long since gotten used to cheap budgets.

Yeah, the show did overdo it at times. Which episodes have you watched? I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and assume they were all (or mostly) first season episodes. The show does mature and drop its over-reliance on sex in the second season.

You guessed right, they were first season.

I'll never forget an exchange I read on this BBS about a year or so ago. This thread reminds me of it so I'll recount it here to the best of my ability:

Babaganoosh: I just really hate shows that aren't filmed where they are set (an oblique reference, in his case, to shows set in New York City that are shot in L.A.)

Someone else: You must really hate shows set in outer space!

This thread is about as useful as that discussion was. I get that Torchwood isn't everybody's cup of tea, and certainly don't mean to discourage discussion about it ... but seriously. If you're gonna criticize the show, do it in a way that at least tries to cloak the hatred.

Hates a strong word, I just wanted to facilitate a conversation about how oversexualized the show was, to the point that it became degrading to sexual minorities.

I'm a huge fan of the show and I agree with what Ninjacore said in her first post. It's a perfect legitimate criticism for the first season of the show.

Torchwood is an exploration of the very things that you are bringing up Ninjacore. If things seem "in your face" or "forced" then that is precisely the effect that the series creator and show runner Russell T. Davies has intended from the very start. It's not for everyone.

I don't see what's so perverted about Torchwood, yes there's some juvenile attitudes to sex in the first series but that doesn't make it perverted.

It was a poor choice of wording if the OP wanted to engage in a serious debate about the juvenile and scattergun approach to sex in the first season. The thread title just seems to say "if it's not mish posish, it's perverted".

Missionary's for the chimps.
