So many ways they could of gone with this, but no go the doom and gloom way.
I must be the only on on here that likes happy endings.

I like consistent endings. With that setup, they'd done it very well to ensure there was no truly happy ending that made any sense. Torchwood gave the children and their families a 'happy ending' at enormous personal cost. That was the whole point.
The thing that would have ruined this series more than anything else would be a reset button happy ending to those fantastic 4 setup parts. That's what I was dreading. And I'm very glad we didn't get it.

Oh really now, how many children are now emotionally traumatized by the actions of the army and cops coming into their homes probably killing their parents and dragging them away?

Hell how many people no longer accept or give a dam about their goverment nor ever trust them again?

Jack wasnt even sure this would work, he could of killed his grandson and still the kids would of been taken.

But the bigger picture is i rather the Goverments tell the 456 to blow off and go down fighting then just hand over the lower class children.

I Truly hated this.

What kind of Monsters are we to give up 10 percent of other peoples children? If we are that cold and heartless then we deserve to get wiped out.

Buy being threatened by a bigger monster that threatens to kill the other 90 percent?

That ending ruined Jacks image. NO longer can i watch him with the doctor in season 1 etc and enjoy watching a man that killed his grandson.

It was less empty, annoying, and pointless than Frobisher killing his own family, it saved millions of children and saved the stability of human civilization.

Oh, and this what I found when I typed in "456" into Google:

Some civilization that turns on our own kids an gives them up to stay alive.
We are the Monsters!

Well that was kinda the point. Although I would argue that the monster was politics. I'm sure if the decision came down to a public poll it would be a landslide victory for fighting to the death. The aliens hadn't demonstrated any military power, so their threat to "wipe out our species" could have been a bluff.

End of the World, or 10 percent of kids leaving an all hell breaking lose, sorry she is getting a phone call, plus she can always get married again , who these days only get married once?

We ARE the monsters. We see that on Who all the time. Hell we see it IN REAL LIFE all the time. I point out the Sudan and Bosnia to you.

And, frankly, the so-called upper classes, the elite and the monied, would have NO PROBLEM "getting rid" of the ten percent of kids from the "bottom".

Good point about the old guy used as the focus instead of the grandchild, but his sacrifice was necessary to get the signal that was turned on the 456 in the first place. Truly, it was never a story that was going to end well for someone. Life isn't all happy endings.

And all those kids that were traumatised and so on? At least they're still alive.

As for Martha and Sarah-Jane, think about it. They're probably trying to stop whatever was happening where they were. Maybe Martha tried to phone the Doctor and got a busy signal. We don't know, and for this story, it doesn't matter. This isn't family-friendly Who, this is adult Torchwood. See?

The kids were still alive with the aliens so they werent dead.

Hell with nothing else, get ahold of the Doctor and he either go get the kids or tell Shadow Promation thingy and they go after the 456.

So why does Adult have to be ended with a sad ending?

And that old guy, they could of turned off the noise for did somethign scifish.

Apart from killing the 456 emissary in its fishtank, what else was there to fight against?

To start with where was their ship? Why shoot nukes and lazers blindly out into seemingly empty space? And they could very easily kill us all: their transmat was slow, bright, and noisy, but good enough to send in objects that could kill us all. Just transmat viral/nerve gas canisters and fusion bombs into every major population centre, then bye bye world.

I get the impression the 456 were going to transmat away the children, but they could only do it properly if they're crowded together in wide open and designated areas, which is why they consulted the British government.

1) that is where Mr Smith comes in handy, its highly unlikely that Mr Smith wont be able to see the ship.

2) but how is that really different from any school playground?

Listen to this guy.

He was stoned.

he was shooting up in front of every one.

Completely impaired.

A bloke that wasted is not going to be in a position of Authority anywhere.

Odds are that this burn out stoner did come from a society of rules, and the rules of conduct he followed to get "our" children was the narrow margin between grifting and theft that the police who police this bugger would let slide.

How often did Bush show up to work pissed out of his gord when he was running the free world telling the little countries how they had to behave or else?

Snick27 you obviously missed the whole point of the series so stick to Doc Who which plots are fun but come on full of plot holes too. No Doctor or Martha in this because its bloody TORCHWOOD.

1) Did the government look like they were interested in consulting anyone? They didn't want to consult anyone so much they killed any fucker who could have helped, so Mr. Smith might have been able to help, but the government weren't interested in anything but covering their own arses.

2) A lot of playgrounds aren't really that wide open and only have a couple of dozen kids on them at a time?

They may not have conducted mass beam ups all over the world because the Shadow Proclamation would notice a huge abduction going on. The 456's plan seemed, like before, to make it seem like a trade.

The 456 had some kind of cloak that no one on Earth could see through, it's safe to asume Mr Smith couldn't either

Sorry but its happening in the Doctor Who universe so therefore cant have just Torchwood without the Doctor when its about Earth almost getting wiped out.

This is why i always felt Torchwood should of been its own show outside of Dr Who.
