Tora Ziyal has cancer

Thanks, guys.

BTW, although I'm half Cardassian, my name is Bajoran. So Tora is my family name. My friends call me Ziyal.

I think your new doc is right in wanting to get rid of the tumor as quickly as possible, even if it is not a must.
The sooner you can go back to a normal life and put this behind you, the better. :)

I wouldn't wish a normal life on my worst enemy. ;)

Let's all aim for exemplary, fascinating, victorious, best-seller–worthy lives! :) (Personally, I'll settle for "above average" -- but I've never driven through Lake Wobegone, so...)

Hugs, Ziyal. :)

Thanks for the hugs and good vibes, guys.

I'd normally ;) be with you on this one, but right now, normal would be an improvement over my worst fears for the future.

A cancer-survivor friend of mine was encouraging me to write a list of things I want to do after I recover from surgery. Maybe I should put a trip to Lake Woebegon on it. :)

^ That is a great idea your friend told you. In many cultures hope and positive thinking are believed to actually make a difference. Things like thinking yourself healthy, visualising yourself having enjoyable activities and experiences beyond the time of surgery and recovery, etc.

I know it may sound a bit New Age, or even hocus pocus, but you know, it surely doesn't hurt. :)

Not New Age at all; there's a whole scientific field called pyschoneuroimmunology investigating this kind of thing. Not quite in the way you put it, admittedly, but the links between mind, mood, and physical health. It's a growing area of genuine scientific interest.

I'm visualizing myself being able to pronounce psychoneuroimmunology. Ommm.

Well, it was about time, if you ask me. ;)

 Oh, no, now you've got me visualizing your being able to pronounce psychoneuroimmunology. Ommm. (I can pronounce it just fine, but my fingers sure had a hard time typing it.)

Since Lake Woebegon is a bit far for me ;), maybe I'll add Shore Leave to my "to do after recovery" list. The doctor expects it to take me about three months to recovery completely, so July would be just about right. If anybody expects to attend, let me know!

Be grateful I didn't use its other, even longer, name of psychoendoneuroimmunology. Which has the unfortunate shorthand of PENI.

Someone really believed in the health benefits of laughter when they were coming up with that one.

I'm not planning on going to the convention (the guests don't really appeal this year), but I think a TrekBBS meet-up would be awesome if you're up to it!

So the surgery's going to be either March 14 or March 15. Thank God it's not next week, which was one of the original possibilities. I've just got so much I want to get done before I go in the hospital.

Yes, they did, Holdfast. I assume that added endocrinology?

Yes, Kira's Mom, a TrekBBS meet-up would be awesome. I intend to be up to it! Assuming that it's at dinner time or earlier. The convention itself I can take or leave.

^That's usually the plan, some of us never go to conventions.

I meant to go last year, but something came up.
