Tor.com - The Twelve Doctors of Christmas

Sounds exciting! And I'm shocked, shocked that you'll be covering The Eighth Doctor, Steve.

I'm curious. Will you be talking about just the TV movie or will you also be covering other media such as Big Finish's audio plays?

It's actually all about the audio dramas-- trying to explain what they did that I think is fundamental to modern Doctor Who and its approach.

Sweet. How spoilerific? I've only listen to part of Lucie Miller's first season and all of Charley through Zagreus.

Not at all-- I only mention the vaguest of plot details, and focus on McGann's performance. And most of what I do mention comes from Storm Warning through Neverland, as I still think that's the highlight of the eighth Doctor adventures.

Yeah, I like Hartnell. I always have a hard time ranking him-- he's somewhat undefinably different in that I think most later Doctors are working from Troughton to differing degrees, but he still clearly laid the groundwork for everything that followed.

The Second and Third Doctor entries are up and now I'm impatiently waiting for The Fourth Doctor entry.

The fourth Doctor one is up now, and it's probably my favorite so far-- a nice mixture of personal story and broader tribute. Nicholas can write quite good stuff. Weirdly enough, I had a conversation with a couple people at lunch a few weeks back about his Doctor-ish qualities!

So far all of these are incredibly well written and I think speak wonders about a character who many fans of all ages and scopes are very passionate about.

I loved the first four entries but Pia Guerra's entry on The Fifth Doctor didn't do anything for me. She spent the whole time playing out a Volvo metaphor that shouldn't have gone on longer than a paragraph or two.

The Sixth Doctor entry is a return to grace for the series and I think OmahaStar would appreciate it (although it focuses more on Big Finish's grand with work with the character).

I liked it, and I learned something. I had never heard of this "Age of Chaos" comic before. I knew Colin had written books, but had no idea he'd written comics as well. I haven't had any luck with a few quick searches so far. But now I want a copy.

I loved The Seventh Doctor entry. McGuire covered exactly why I emphasized with The Seventh Doctor, and although I didn't connect with Ace on the same level as McGuire did (for obvious reasons), Ace has always been one of my favorite companions for precisely the reasons McGuire described.

I can't wait for your entry tomorrow, Steve!
