Top Chef: All-Stars

^^ It's Top Chef, who knows? Padma probably filmed it 15 different ways so they could use whatever shot they thought would get people talking most.

There's already controversy brewing since apparently Puck threw his vote the other way after talking to the other judges off-camera. I suppose Mike I makes for a better villain if you go for conspiracies.

If you ask me I would think it harder to cook a perfect Japanese meal over Fried Chicken and Biscuit and Goulash and Struedel. At least Bravo didn't dub Morimoto.

Did anyone who watched the preview for next week think they showed us the winner? Because they showed Mike and Richard at Judge's Table, and it was really clear which way Padma was looking when she announced the winner.

Or is it just me?

Unless both Mike and Blais were standing to Padma's right, it's Blais. Can't really argue either way. Blais is Blais and Mike's been cooking his heart out.

I liked that (once Marcel was gone) there was a lot of camaraderie between the cheftestants.

I'm a little disappointed, I was rooting for Mike. But Richard's a good guy and he probably was the best chef on the show, so whatever.

Okay, when I heard about SyFy getting a cooking show I thought it was bad enough. Then I discovered that Marcel of all people is starring in this show. And it's a reality show, not some sort of showcase, which is what the previews made it seem like.

Wha? :wtf:

I said the same thing, SyFy is getting a cooking show and its fucking Marcel. I would rather have my eyes pulled out and I love cooking shows.
My guess is that they probably asked Richard first.
While Marcel is good, I find Richard a better, more experanced chef when it comes to gastronomic cooking. However, Richard is chef at I think 3 or 4 resturants already plus I think he runs his own class on the side.

Marcel is single, less busy and probably comes with a cheaper price tag.

It was awesome to see Carla finally win "Fan favorite".
I voted 6x for her.:bolian:

FINALLY!

While I feel kinda bad that Tiffany went home on what was apparently a very good dish, she should have gone home weeks ago

Maybe but her and Carla together made for some great TV.
Nothing this season tops Carla asking Tre' for his NAACP card back because he doesn't understand soul food.:guffaw:

Yes yes yes yes YES! I am so happy that Richard won. He really, truly earned it. What a great ending. And Mike will be all right, I think.

Also happy that Carla won fan favorite. I would have preferred to see her win the whole thing, but it's a good consolation prize.

That was absolutely hilarious. "Tre eats greens out of a can, so, no I don't trust Tre with the collard greens!" :guffaw:

And Mike will be all right, I think.

Yeah, that's the good thing about Top Chef - the contestants are all so talented that you can be fairly sure even the losers are going to be just fine; whereas on shows like Survivor you sometimes know if that guy doesn't win the million he's going back to that trailer living like crap and never amount to anything. ;)

I thought I'd add Mike's description of his Pepperoni Sauce, for anyone who's interested:

“It’s actually pretty easy,” he chuckled. “You’re going to laugh.”

Saute onions, garlic, chili flakes and fennel seeds in olive oil. Add chopped pepperoni, and let it sweat for couple minutes. Add a can of San Marzano tomatoes and add some chicken stock. Don’t add too much liquid, as you want the sauce to be hearty. Cook the mixture for 45 minutes, until the pepperoni gets soft and moist. Puree “the heck out of it” in a blender and salt to taste.

Mike says he plans to serve it over a wood-roasted chicken on the menu at his restaurant Graffiato when it opens this summer in DC.

I was kind of pulling for Mike because (sadly) he's probably the closest to me physically and personality wise of the contestants. He at least made a strong showing and there didn't seem to be any stupid shenanigans with their output, they both were able to accomplish what they set out to make. I was glad that Jaime didn't cause any problems, for instance.

Richard already had his own show: http://science.discovery.com/tv/blais-off/. They did air but I think it was a pilot that they didn't pick up (another show on Science Channel with the same fate was called Stuck With Hackett).

Blais's show was OK but it wasn't exactly electric. It was a riff on Bobby Flay's Throwdown because Blais would put up his molecular gastronomy take on a classic dish against someone who was considered a leader in making that dish. Then they'd have someone judge whether Blais's version was better or not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZi-rajQRYM

I've been hooked on this show since S1, and I was literally glued to the set every Wednesday for All-Stars. So many of my favorites were competing, and Richard winning was a great outcome for me. Seeing Anthony Bourdain at judges' table again was an added bonus, I've missed him the past few seasons. I hope this season earns the show another Emmy (how great was that last year?). :D
