Top 8 Picks of Television

I could easily do a Top 20 but I will play by your rules...

1. The Big Bang Theory
2. Persons of Interest
3. Arrow
4. The Daily Show
5. Game of Thrones
6. Doctor Who
7. Gotham
8. The Colbert Report

I don't mind that Girl Meets World is Disney, but being the best three camera sitcom on TV is kind of like being the least odorous turd.

I wish they'd stop doing origin stories for all the big franchises. I have such little interest in seeing the finer details of story we already know and much more interest in seeing what happens next.
Yea.

It's kind of sad that there isn't a ton (imo) to choose from show wise. A lot of them seem to be carbon (to a point) copies of one another,

Agreed. Unless it's going to go somewhere, what's the point?

- Game of Thrones

D'uh

- Agents of Shield

Since the Hydra reveal last season the show is firing on all cylinders, it is now the show it should have been from the start

- Person of Interest

Smart, cool and interesting characters and awesome plot full of twists and turns

- The Big Bang Theory

With a little slump in seasons 4 and 5 the show is back in form and funnier than ever

- Orange is the new black

Awesome characters and engaging storylines

- House of Cards

Frank Underwood/Kevin Spacey.. 'nuff said

- House of Lies

At times hilarious show with Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell about business consultants and all the bullshit they spin to get their customers to shell out the big bucks

That's only 7 but it's the only shows i watch regularly when they're aired, I've not mentioned shows that end soon like Legend of Korra, Newsroom or shows where i'm still deciding of they're great like Flash (still need to move past ep. 18 of Arrows first season though it's an ok show).

I did start watching Gotham, but I quickly found that it became stale and I've dropped it to "Will Finish When The Blu Ray Come Out Status".

I have to ask. If you found it too stale to watch for free on broadcast television why would you pay for DVDs and keep watching it?

At least with Blu-Rays I can watch one or two episodes at a time and then put the discs back on the shelf until the next time I want to continue with the story.

Shows of which I'm really trying to catch every episode:

Sherlock
Game of Thrones - Tyrion was just great this season.
Person of Interest
Arrow
Good Wife
The Flash
Forever
Hannibal

Here's mine:

1. Fargo: Far and away, the best thing I've watched on television in a long time.
2. Parks and Recreation: Always makes me smile and laugh. As Leslie might say, "You are a perfect moonbeam of happiness."
3. The Flash: The fanboy in me loves it and so do my sons. And they are using Firestorm, my favorite C-list hero!
4. The Walking Dead: My only "appointment" show. I watch it live every week, while everything else sits on the DVR until I get to it.
5. Community: What else can I say?
6. Arrow: Very similar in reasoning to The Flash, but with a more serious tone.
7. Doctor Who: Not it's strongest season, but with episodes like "Listen," it's still damned good TV.
8. About a Boy: I binged thanks to Netflix on season 1 and loved it. Season 2 started out slow, for me, but it's regained a lot of its charm, thankfully.

My outlier-- Teen Titans Go: More for the fact that my sons love it, too. I know a lot of adult fans despise it, but to me, it's hilarious and packs in a lot of comic references (from pictures in the background to name-checking characters, to finding excuses to show a mulleted Nightwing). And someone who writes for the show has a love of the 80's, as they even worked in references to Small Wonder and Webster (deep, accurate references, too, not just name-checks or a throwaway reference).

And, a shout-out to my 2014 Netflix binge shows (some I watched for the first time, some for the third or fourth time):

The West Wing, 30 Rock, Breaking Bad, Arrested Development, Better off Ted, Snuff Box, The IT Crowd, Futurama, and my most recent binge The Office.

I don't know if I can get to 8 but my favorite shows of the last year:

1) Orphan Black - Tatiana Maslany continues to do incredible things, and while Season 2 was weaker than Season 1, I still really enjoyed it. Can't wait to see what happens next in Season 3 and hopefully the writers take this criticism and improve the series, and start answering some questions like who exactly is Paul and Mrs. S.

2) Orange is the New Black - I think I like season 1 but season 2 was great as well. I'm glad they scaled back Piper's storyline.

3) Gotham - I quit watching Gotham after the third episode but got back into it later on. It really improved and I'm looking forward to it's return.

4) Parks and Recreation - Final season in January. I wonder how they are going to do the series after what happened in last season's finale

5) South Park - Season 18 was a great season, despite the final two episodes. Loved the continuity this year.

6) Doctor Who - There were many things to like about Capaldi's first year. However, I do think it's time for Moffat to hand over the Reigns to someone else

7) 24: Live Another Day - This season really surprised me. I wasn't sure if I really wanted another season of 24, but this season was exciting and was the series at it's best since season 5. If they have another season, I'll be watching

I think that's it. Can't really think of an 8th series and I refuse to put Glee on this list given that season really sucked and the only reason I'm going to see the final season is because I'm a completist like that.

Actually there was an 8th series, but it was a series that I watched for the first time on Netflix that aired in the 90s. Despite Netflix screwing it up, I really enjoyed my watching of X-Files this year.

I'm struggling to find 8 I really like, but after some head scratching, here's 8 I like, or at least don't actively dislike :

Chicago PD
Chicago Fire
Big Bang Theory
The Blacklist
Hannibal
Elementary
The Last Ship
Sherlock (just about this year, and although season 3 was so-so, it's still better than anything else on T.V.)

I'd like to include Game of Thrones but I've avoided watching season 2 onwards while I read all the novels.

Agents of Shield has improved slightly (it was awful), but I still think I'm probably only watching because it's in the MCU.

Walking Dead is getting tedious again, and might get ditched.

Aside from Sports and random stuff on the Food Network/Cooking Channel I really don't watch a whole lot of episodic television, that said, here is my top 2:

1. Agents of SHIELD
2. Big Bang Theory

Other shows I watch but I don't think would qualify for the best in TV:
Castle - I still watch it, sometimes I question why, because it's only a shadow of its former self.
The Goldbergs - I graduated high school in 1986 so I can identify with this show a lot. It's not great, but it has it's moments.

*I have high hopes for Agent Carter, but I can't rank what I haven't seen...

I think we all watch things that 'aren't the best'.

I could have mentioned that I watch The 100, Eastenders, New Girl...

I think I watch about 12 shows, so ranking the top 8 seems kind of superfluous. But here I go anyway!

In no particular order:

Orange is the New Black -- If anything, I quite appreciate the fact that it's helping to broaden and open up the topic of women -- particularly women of color -- in prison. This season is more outlandish than last, but it's also an improvement as well. Piper remains the most boring character on the show, but I can forgive that since she's the gateway to all the other stories and subplots.

Game of Thrones -- I am never not bored, and I don't ask for much here. Even the political dealings are dealt with such scale and elegance that my attention never wavers, and I always suspect that there are tricks up everyone's sleeves. Even Hot Pie.

The Walking Dead -- Better paced than last year, with a larger ensemble to give a bit more variety.

Parks & Rec -- A mix of Capra-esque American optimism with a modern take on humor and sarcasm. I love that this show is analytical of government from both a critical and complimentary standpoint, with the humor to give it heart and offset the typically boring but necessary aspects of government.

Community -- yay, it's coming back!

Doctor Who -- a big improvement over the past two seasons, and definitely better than a few Tennant seasons, too.

Homeland -- I don't deny that it's problematic at times, but it's suspenseful in the mold of 24. The departure of Brody has pushed the show a big deal in terms of writing quality and pacing.

True Detective -- I was bored with the first two episodes but gave it a shot because of the two leads (who, by the way, surprised the heck out of me). Episode 4, though, is when everything changed and I became a fan for life.

I'm warming up to the Flash. Agents of SHIELD is getting better and better, so it might crack the top 8 soon. My other shows are Gotham and American Horror Story, but at this point I seem to be watching out of obligation.

I think I have only watch 8 series this year. They are, not in any special order

True Detective

'Obligation', yeah, for me that covers -

SHIELD
Gotham
Doctor Who
Haven
Walking Dead

I've ditched a lot of shows, particularly Earth based 'genre' shows. I can see few more going...

1) The Leftovers
2) True Detective
3) Boardwalk Empire
4) Mad Men (tie)
4) Game of Thrones (tie)
5) Doctor Who
6) Fargo
7) Bob's Burgers

True Detective

How I Met Your Mother
Orange Is The new Black
Sons of Anarchy
How To Get Away With Murder

Bonus: The Colbert Report

I suppose Parks & Rec also deserves to be on my list as it technically has a full season left. Though it seems like NBC has decided to burn them off two episodes a week for seven weeks so it won't feel like a full season.

I don't watch enought TV to come up with 8. My list goes:
The Walking Dead
Mad Men
The Simpsons
Mike and Molly.
