Was going to post this somewhere else, but after enjoying a number of years with a lot of you (not to mention a few April 1sts), I thought my fellow scribes would appreciate this more.
So here goes ... I got laid off a few months back from the old mundane day job, so after a month I thought it would be better to be productive and unemployed rather than UNproductive and unemployed. I wanted something to show for my involuntary "vacation".
You know that challenge some people do to write a novel in November? (or something like that)
I wanted to see if I could write an entire vocal score in a month. I started January 29th and essentially finished the last lead sheet Friday afternoon. (Yeah, five weeks, not four. )
I have adapted a very famous movie in to a slightly nutty stage musical.
The complete title is: The Final Dress Rehearsal of the Musical Version of Plan 9 from Outer Space. (I've already created a common truncated version: Plan 9: The Final Dress)
It's about a community theater group putting on a musical version of the classic film, so there's lots of breaking of character and technical glitches in addition to almost all the scenes from the movie.
I've been threatening to write and compose this for years. And someone did it once in 1983, but I never saw nor heard their version.
Some of the song titles:
Plan 9 from Outer Space
Somethin' I Ain't Never Seen Before
Ah-UH-Oo (I Love You)
A Gun Is a Man's Best Friend
I, a Fiend?/Stupid Stupid Humans
Whew! There it is.
Now ...
...anyone know if Wade Williams III is still alive?
--Ted
P.S. And now all I need to do is write the book (That's theater talk for the entire script except for lyrics)
